Once Robin’s emotions settled down, his physical condition improved significantly as well.
Elise hadn’t slept well the night before, and a heavy wave of drowsiness was beginning to wash over her.
Robin held tightly onto her hand, refusing to let go.
"Robin, it’s time for your afternoon nap," Elise reminded him softly.
"Will you sleep with me?"
Elise stifled a yawn. Utterly exhausted, she gave in to his sweet request and slid onto the bed beside him.
Afternoon sunlight streamed through the window, bathing the hospital room in a warm, gentle glow. Before long, both the adult and the child drifted off into a deep sleep.
A short while later, the door was softly pushed open.
Stepping inside, Dylan caught sight of the two figures on the bed. His dark, somber face paused for a fraction of a second, his gaze instantly softening with tenderness.
He walked over to the bedside, leaning down to pull the small blanket a little higher over Elise, gently tucking her in.
She was sleeping deeply, her profile tranquil, with the faint trace of a smile lingering at the corners of her lips. It seemed that staying behind to keep Robin company was something she genuinely wanted to do.
Dylan shifted his gaze to Robin’s little face—one that bore a striking resemblance to his own—and his eyes darkened imperceptibly.
After a quiet moment, he turned and walked over to the sofa, sinking into it and slowly closing his eyes. Having stayed awake since yesterday, exhaustion overwhelmed him the moment he closed his eyes, and sleep quickly pulled him under.
Meanwhile, Jessica sought out Robin’s attending physician to discuss his follow-up treatment plan.
The doctor explained that as long as the boy didn’t run another fever, he could actually be discharged to recover at home. Jessica agreed, feeling that a prolonged hospital stay wouldn’t benefit the boy’s psychological well-being. Furthermore, it wasn’t practical for a pregnant woman like Elise to stay cooped up in the hospital indefinitely.
After some discussion, Jessica and the doctor agreed that if Robin remained fever-free tonight, he could be discharged the following morning.
Downstairs, in Fleur’s private ward.
When Anna Olsen’s call came through, Fleur had just finished scrolling through the online comments.
The public outcry questioning and cursing her had escalated dramatically, with some netizens even starting to track down her whereabouts. Things were spiraling far beyond her initial expectations.
Anna said over the phone, "The higher-ups said the public discussion is hot enough now. We need to start filming the show ahead of schedule."
Fleur knit her brows. "Isn’t that too sudden? On my end—"
"If we wait any longer, your reputation will be completely ruined! Who’s going to watch the show when it airs later?!"
Fleur pressed her lips together in silence, a wave of irritability rising in her chest.
Seeing her silence, Anna’s tone grew anxious. "Fleur, this is no time for hesitation! We have to move fast. Otherwise, if Rina’s team starts filming early too, we’ll be left completely at a disadvantage!"
Fleur weighed her options. Since she couldn’t see Robin anyway, and it wasn’t a good time to push her presence on Dylan, she might as well seize this opportunity to throw herself into her career! At the very least, she had to prove to Dylan that she was never the kind of helpless woman who depended entirely on men—she could be even more successful and dazzling than Elise!
With that thought, Fleur agreed.
Fleur called Dylan to inform him that she was discharging herself to begin filming the show tomorrow.
Over the phone, Dylan told her that if she needed any help with work, she could call him, and if he wasn’t reachable, she could contact Oliver directly.
Hearing his considerate instructions, the lingering knot of anxiety in Fleur’s heart dissolved completely.
It seemed Dylan still cared about her after all! She was Robin’s birth mother—that identity alone was enough to guarantee his special treatment. As for Robin, she could simply sweet-talk and coax the boy back later.
