Walking Away While Pregnant: Dear Ex-Husband, I Don't Love You Anymore novel Chapter 191

Chapter 191: Chapter 191

Hearing this, Elise thought it over seriously and said, "I’m in my second trimester now, and the baby is in stable condition. Flying back on a private jet won’t be much of a strain."

"The baby might be stable, but it’s still exhausting!" Madeline frowned. "I just don’t see the difference a few months would make. Flying all the way back to North City just to get a divorce certificate is way too taxing for a pregnant woman!"

Elise stroked her bump. "When a decision needs to be made, it’s best to act swiftly. Now that Dylan has finally relented, why should I drag things out?"

"Ah, well..."

"Madeline," Elise suddenly interrupted, arching an eyebrow as she eyed her with a probing look. "You’re acting strange. What’s going on? Did good old Dylan send you money?"

Madeline went silent.

"With how you’re acting right now, it’s hard for me not to suspect you’ve taken bribes from him."

"Total BS!" Flustered, Madeline slapped her thigh. "Am I the kind of person who betrays a sister for money? I’m not saying this for Dylan—I’m looking out for you!"

"Looking out for me?" Elise found it even harder to understand. "If you’re looking out for me, all the more reason to support me going back to get the divorce certificate."

"You..." Madeline couldn’t explain herself, nor could she lay out the truth. She could only wave her hand dismissively. "Forget it, forget it! As long as you’re happy!"

Elise thought Madeline was acting a bit odd, but she didn’t overthink it, simply adding, "Honestly, I’ve wanted to make a trip back for a while now. Some of the baby clothes you guys bought earlier are still at my apartment, so I can bring them over this time. Plus, there are some out-of-print books I love that would be perfect for me to read during my pregnancy."

Hearing that, Madeline had nothing left to say. Pushing any further would only spark true suspicion from Elise.

Jessica gave Madeline a meaningful look.

She then turned her gaze to Elise and said, "Since you’re going back, Miss Paige and I will go with you. You’ll have plenty of things to bring back, so you definitely can’t manage on your own."

Madeline immediately chimed in, "Yes, exactly! Dr. Sanders and I will come along, and we should bring Mrs. Lander too. Since we’re taking a private jet anyway, a few extra people won’t make a difference!"

"If you don’t mind the trouble, then of course," Elise smiled, looking at Jessica. "But Dr. Sanders, are you coming back with us after that?"

"Of course I am," Jessica raised an eyebrow at her. "What? Are you sick of me?"

"No, I’m just worried about holding you up from your work," Elise pursed her lips, continuing, "I feel fine now, so you don’t need to stay by my side all the time."

"To me, you’re more of a friend here; I haven’t been treating you like a patient all the time. As for work, I’m not a hospital-bound doctor—my schedule is as free as it gets. Besides, in all my years in this field, I’ve rarely taken a proper break. Consider this a stroke of luck thanks to you and Robin—Mr. Bennett paid me a massive consultation fee, enough for me to kick back and take it easy for three years."

Elise offered a gentle smile.

Deep down, she knew very well that even without an income as a therapist, Jessica—as the youngest heiress of the Sanders family—could easily live a life of leisure. She also knew Dr. Sanders was staying specifically for her sake; Dr. Sanders had always been clear about her emotional struggles. As long as Jessica didn’t bring it up directly, Elise went along with it without breaking the unspoken understanding.

Since Dylan wanted to keep certain things hidden, then let them stay hidden for a lifetime.

Dylan’s recovery progressed smoothly.

From that day on, Elise didn’t visit the hospital again. Mrs. Lander and Madeline, however, took Robin to see him every day. Mrs. Lander always brought home-cooked meals, sometimes including soups allowed by the hospital.

Elise had no objections to this whatsoever. Even if she and Dylan divorced, nothing would change the fact that they were Robin’s biological parents.

The five-year separation had caused Robin to suffer a great deal of grievance, and Elise always harbored a deep sense of guilt toward him. Knowing how much he relied on his father, whenever he returned from the hospital and eagerly shared the details of his time with Dylan, she would respond with generous, gentle warmth, ensuring the boy never felt a trace of unease.

The romantic tie between her and Dylan had run its course, but in the child’s world, they would forever be Mom and Dad—family for a lifetime. For the sake of their child, there was no need for two divorced people to cut ties completely and become bitter strangers.

A week later, the doctor announced that Dylan could be discharged to rest at home, needing only periodic check-ups.

That day, Aaron drove him straight to Elise’s villa.

However, just as the car pulled up outside the villa’s main gate, they witnessed a rather unpleasant scene.
