The private jet landed smoothly at North City Airport.
The cabin door opened, and a group of people disembarked one after another, led by Dylan.
Oliver and Zoey had arrived early.
Zoey had driven a nanny van. As for Elise, only Madeline and Jessica had accompanied her back.
Since the plan was to head straight back to Rainport right after finishing the divorce paperwork tomorrow, Elise had left the two children in Rainport. Fearing that Mrs. Clark wouldn’t be able to handle both kids on her own, she had left Mrs. Lander behind as well.
Dylan and Aaron got into Oliver’s car and left immediately.
Watching the car fade into the distance, Madeline bit her lip in frustration, her teeth grinding in annoyance.
On the entire flight back, Dylan had not only avoided speaking to Elise, but he had also deliberately picked a seat as far away from her as possible.
Madeline and Aaron—the two busybodies—had been anxious the entire way, yet the two parties involved remained completely unfazed.
Take right now, for instance: Elise couldn’t care less about Dylan’s reactions. Her sole focus was returning to her apartment immediately to pack the things she wanted to bring back to Rainport.
It was as if the main purpose of her return trip was to retrieve her belongings, and getting a divorce was merely an afterthought.
Madeline had a stomach full of grievances, but she didn’t dare voice a single word. It was infuriating!
Zoey pulled the car to a stop right in front of the elevator doors on the basement level.
Turning to Elise, she said, "I had the place cleaned in advance, so you can stay there tonight. After you leave for Rainport tomorrow, I’ll hire someone to clean and tidy it up again."
Elise offered a soft smile. "Thanks for your help."
"Why are you being so distant? Hurry on up! After a flight that long, your back must be aching, right?"
At that, Elise supported her lower back and let out a helpless laugh. "A little, yeah."
"Go upstairs and lie down to rest right away! Oliver and I have to stay on top of that recent project, so we won’t be able to keep you company this time!"
"Mm, go focus on your work. We’ll catch up once you’re done."
"Sounds good!"
The moment they arrived home, Madeline and Jessica practically forced Elise to lie down in bed.
"Just lie there and direct us," Madeline said, patting her chest reassuringly.
Elise felt helpless, but her lower back was indeed aching; a several-hour flight had taken its toll. Sitting in bed watching Madeline and Jessica bustle around, she gradually drifted off to sleep.
When Madeline walked into the room carrying a stack of books, Jessica put a finger to her lips, making a shushing motion.
The two lightened their footsteps, turned to walk out of the room, and quietly shut the door.
Walking into the living room, Madeline set the phone in her hands onto the coffee table, resting her hands on her hips with a heavy sigh. "Sigh, going through all this hassle just for a divorce certificate... she really wants this divorce, doesn’t she?"
Jessica retrieved two bottles of water from the kitchen refrigerator, walked over, and handed one to Madeline. "Which is why we shouldn’t try to dissuade her anymore. Full support is the way to go."
Taking the water, Madeline took a generous gulp before sitting down on the sofa.
"I can understand her wanting a divorce since her memories are incomplete, but I really can’t read Dylan this time either. Did he suddenly unlock some ’selfless sacrifice’ skill or something?"
Jessica nearly spat out her mouthful of water. "Stop overthinking things. Things will sort themselves out in the end. Divorces are actually quite common nowadays. Look at how many couples divorce only to remarry later! With the children around, it won’t be that easy for the two of them to completely cut ties anyway."
Hearing this, Madeline suddenly had a stroke of clarity. "I get it now! Dylan is playing the long game by retreating to advance! Ah, as expected of him! I was wondering how a man as domineering and strong-willed as him could ever fit a selfless sacrifice persona!"
Jessica frowned. She certainly hadn’t said anything of the sort.
Still, if thinking that way made Madeline feel better, then so be it.
Elise slept until dark. By the time she woke up, Madeline and Jessica had already packed everything up.
The two had ordered food, and just as Elise walked out of her room, the delivery arrived.
