Chapter 161
Ridley’s POV
Memories of last night made my body go rigid. No one would ever
know how much self–control it had cost me to pull away from her
warm bod, and how many cold showers I’d taken after leaving her.
I’d been ready to have her. Until I realized she was a virgin.
I couldn’t bring myself to take her virginity like that.
“You… you really didn’t touch me?” Cedar asked, clearly embarrassed
but still determined to know.
I swallowed hard and forced out a cruel laugh. “With that skinny body
of yours? I’m not that desperate.”
Seeing my look of distaste, Cedar suddenly broke into a smile.
Despite being insulted and exposed, she seemed… relieved. Thrilled,
even.
My mood darkened further. I hadn’t touched her, and she was this
happy about it?

“Don’t you know your own body well enough to tell if you’ve been
with someone?” I couldn’t resist the cutting remark.
Cedar’s POV
My face felt hot enough to fry an egg. How would I know what sex felt
like afterward? I had no experience to draw from.
Still… if Ridley hadn’t touched me, where did all those marks on my
body come from? I wanted to ask but couldn’t summon the nerve.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Sterling. I misunderstood,” I said, unable to keep the
relief from my voice.
The happier I sounded, the darker his expression grew.
“I should have left you to fend for yourself last night,” he muttered
coldly.
“Ahem!” I quickly adopted my most sincere expression. “Mr. Sterling, you saved me last night, and I’m eternally grateful. A simple thank you‘ seems inadequate. If there’s ever anything I can do for you, anything at all, I’m at your service.”
“Then come with me now,” Ridley said, striding toward the exit.

I glanced at the sunset’s fading glow–it was getting dark. “Where are
we going?” I called after him.
“To my home.”
dley opened the car door, fixing me with that cool stare. “You can
elax. I have no interest in you whatsoever.”
I shuffled over awkwardly. Fair enough–I’d previously suspected he
might be interested in me, but after last night… Well, if he could
resist me when I was naked and in that state, he clearly wasn’t
attracted to me.
Unless…
I found myself wondering if Ridley might have some kind of…
performance issues?
“Ahem!” I choked on my own saliva as images of Ridley’s physique
flashed through my mind. My gaze inadvertently dropped to the area
below his belt buckle.
Ridley looked like he might cough blood. If his expression was
anything to go by, he knew exactly what I was thinking.
“Mr. Sterling!” I quickly changed the subject. “Will all the children be

at home?”
“Would you prefer them to be?” he countered coolly.
Instinct told me this question was a trap.
“It doesn’t really matter to me either way…” I replied with an
awkward laugh, not even convincing myself.
I still hadn’t figured out how, in just two months, I’d become so
attached to Ridley Sterling’s three children. If I weren’t the person
involved, I might question my own motives.
The car moved smoothly through Chicago’s streets, soon arriving at
the Sterling estate. I hadn’t expected Ridley to actually bring me to
his family home and suddenly felt nervous.
“Will Mrs. Sterling be there?” I asked, fidgeting with the hem of my
blouse.
Ridley parked the car and turned those cool eyes on me. “Afraid to
face my mother?”
“No, no, not at all…” I lied, my eyes darting around nervously.

I’d almost ruined her birthday dinner. How could I face her after that?
“Relax. My mother doesn’t live here,” Ridley said with a hint of
amusement.
