Being held like this made me feel ridiculously small and vulnerable.
“Aren’t your keys right there in your hand?” He mercilessly exposed
my pathetic lie.
I couldn’t think of a response. After taking a deep breath, I tried
again. “Mr. Sterling, if you have something to say, we can talk
properly. Just… please let go of my collar.”
“Are you going to run again?”
“No, I won’t,” I promised, defeated.
He released me, his intense gaze studying me from head to toe. I noticed his eyes lingering on the clothes I wore–the ones he’d
provided.
His scrutiny made my scalp tingle with anxiety. I took a small step backward, but my heel twisted awkwardly. Though I caught my balance, the pharmacy bag slipped from my grasp and fell to the
ground.
The small box tumbled out on the ground.

Chapter 160
Under the harsh street light, the words “Emergency Contraceptive”
were perfectly, unmistakably visible.
I bent down quickly to retrieve it from the floor, awkwardly tucking it
behind my back as if he hadn’t already seen it. The emergency
contraceptive felt like it was burning through my palm.
Ridley’s expression darkened, his perfectly sculpted eyebrows drawing
together as his lips thinned with displeasure.
“What’s that? Afraid you might get pregnant?” His cool voice cut
through the air between us, making my heart skip nervously.
I bit my lip, trying to maintain some dignity. “Taking emergency
contraception after unprotected sex is just basic responsibility, Mr.
Sterling. Or did you want me to potentially have your child?”
Ridley’s mouth curved into that infuriating smirk of his. “I’ve never
met a woman so eager to avoid having her own child while
simultaneously playing mommy to someone else’s kids.”
His meaning couldn’t have been clearer. This was about Oliver. The
little boy had secretly stayed at my apartment for more than a month,
even calling me “Mommy,” Clearly, Ridley had strong feelings about
that arrangement.

Chapter 160
I wanted to explain everything, but when I met his cold gaze, the
words died in my throat. Oliver had deceived both of us, but how
could I throw a child under the bus? At the end of the day, he was just
a little boy desperate for maternal affection.
“Mr. Sterling, I need you to know – I have zero interest in becoming
the next Mrs. Sterling. Last night was just… a mistake. We’re both
adults, we can pretend it never happened. I’m not expecting anything
from you, and I won’t come knocking on your door with
complications. And I’m definitely not having your baby.”
I took a shaky breath. “If this makes things awkward, I can hand in my
resignation tomorrow.”
With each sentence, Ridley’s expression grew darker. Before I could
react, he stepped forward and snatched the pill box from my hand,
tossing it with perfect aim into a garbage can two yards away.
“What are you doing?!” I nearly shrieked, feeling my blood pressure
spike.
“You don’t need it,” he stated coldly, his mouth twisting into a
mocking smile.
I stared at him in fury. “What exactly are you saying? If I don’t take that pill, I could get pregnant. I’m not married–you think I want an
