Chapter 218
Ridley’s POV
I couldn’t focus on my computer screen after Cedar left my office. Her
voice, her scent, her presence–everything lingered in the room like a
ghost. I loosened my tie and walked over to grab the whiskey from my
shelf, but even the burn couldn’t erase the sight of Cedar’s retreating
figure.
A knock at the door pulled me back to reality.
“Come in.”
Albert entered, holding a folder with an unusually serious expression.
“Mr. Sterling, I’ve uncovered the truth about why Ms. Wright was sent
to the orphanage as an infant.”
I gestured for him to sit and returned to my desk. ‘Let’s hear it.”
Albert opened the folder, his voice steady. Ms. Wright is the true
Pierce heiress. She and Emma Pierce were switched at birth, and t
was all orchestrated as revenge against Mrs. Pierce
Chapter 218
My eyebrows shot up. “Explain.”
“Twenty–six years ago, Mrs. Pierce experienced a life–threatening,
complicated delivery. Her newborn was taken to the nursery. On the
same day, a woman named Meredith Johnson–who had briefly
worked as a maid for the Pierce family–gave birth at the same
hospital.”
“Go on.”
“According to our investigation, Meredith had discovered Mrs. Pierce’s
pregnancy while working there. She apparently tried to seduce Mr.
Pierce but was caught and immediately terminated. After being fired,
she ended up homeless, got involved with a small–time criminal,
became pregnant, and was eventually abandoned. This experience left
her with a deep resentment toward the Pierce family, particularly
Mrs. Pierce.”
I leaned back in my chair, already guessing where this was heading.
“So she switched the babies?”
Albert nodded. ‘Hospital security footage shows her presence near
the maternity ward. She took advantage of a shift change to switch
the identity tags of the two baby girls. Afterward, she placed Pierce’s
biological daughter, Ms. Wright, in an orphanage, while her own
daughter Emma became the Pierce heiress.”
Chapter 218
“Do we have conclusive evidence?”
“We conducted DNA comparisons. Emma Pierce shows no biological
relation to the Pierce. Additionally, Meredith died of liver cancer five
years ago, but before passing, she confessed this secret to her
caregiver. No one believed what they thought was just the delirium of
a dying woman.”
I fell silent, processing everything. Emma indeed bore no
resemblance to the Pierce family, nor had she ever displayed the
sharp intellect the Pierces were known for. Cedar’s gentle nature, her
striking similarity to the Pierce family’s refined demeanor, the
children’s immediate recognition when they saw Mrs. Pierce’s photo-
it all made sense now.
“Ethan should know about this,” I finally said. “It concerns his family,
and it might be better if he’s the one to tell Cedar.”
“Should I arrange for Mr. Pierce to come over?”
“Yes, three o’clock. Don’t tell him the specifics, just say I need to discuss an important matter.”
After Albert left, I stood by the window, staring at the distant lake. Cedar would finally have a real family–one that could give her the respect and love she deserved, one that matched her social standing
Chapter 218
This should be good news, so why did I feel this inexplicable sense of
loss?
Her life was truly heading in a better direction, while mine was slowly
deteriorating. If it weren’t for this illness, perhaps I could have been
an important part of her life, witnessing her happiness unfold.
At precisely three o’clock, Ethan Pierce arrived at my office.
“Ridley, what’s so urgent? I canceled an important meeting for this,”
Ethan said, characteristically direct.
I motioned for him to sit down, skipping the pleasantries. “It’s about
Cedar. I’ve discovered something you should know.”
As I laid out the investigation results, Ethan’s expression transformed
from confusion to shock, finally settling into disbelief.
“Are you absolutely certain this information is accurate?” His voice
trembled slightly.
“I’ve verified it multiple times. DNA doesn’t lie.”
“This is… unbelievable, Ethan shook his head. Cedar is sty biological

sister? And Emma…”
“Emma is still your younger sister if she could accept all these. We
don’t need to make Cedar her enemy,” I said calmly.
“I understand.” Ethan took a deep breath. “By the way, how did you
discover all this?”
“By chance,” I replied briefly. “Aiden told me they discovered a photo
of your mother in her twenties.”
“So you launched a private investigation?” Ethan narrowed his eyes.
“I was merely confirming a theory,” I met his gaze. “Now the truth is
before us,
and how to handle it is the Pierce family’s decision.
Whether to acknowledge Cedar, how to manage the relationship with
Emma–those choices are yours to make.”
Ethan ran a hand through his hair, looking troubled. “I noticed the
resemblance between Cedar and my mother when I first met her, but
my parents never mentioned losing a child. I never questioned
whether Emma was truly my biological sister. I even showed my
parents Cedar’s pendant, but that necklace was probably a fake. After
that, I simply dismissed the resemblance as a coincidence.
“Have you told her everything? What was her reaction? Ethan asked.
Chapter 218
“She knows about the DNA test results but not the details. I could
sense her longing for a real family.”
Ethan remained silent for a long while before finally nodding. “Thank
you for telling me. I need to discuss this with my parents, but
regardless, Cedar deserves to know the truth.”
I agree, I replied, glancing at my watch. “I have a meeting in a few
minutes. Feel free to stay here to make your calls. If you need
anything, Albert can assist you.”
Before leaving my office, I looked back at Ethan, lost in thought.
Cedar was about to experience a life–changing revelation, and
perhaps I needed to step aside and let her reunite with her true
family.
