Chapter 233

“On my

third afternoon in the hospital, she showed up with a bouquet of flowers. She collapsed by my bed, sobbing and apologizing, swearing she had no idea Jasper had those kinds of feelings for her. She claimed she only saw him as an older brother.”

Silas sneered. “Rafael and Finnian ended up paying our family a massive settlement to keep things quiet.”

Kaia felt a sharp pang in her chest. The two brothers had blatantly shielded Noelle.

“Kaia!” Seraphina clearly didn’t want to dwell on the agonizing memories. She took a deep drink of her wine. “I’m sorry. Saying all this doesn’t anything. Jasper confessed his obsession with Noelle. He admitted he was desperately trying to claim her, and he even pleaded for her at the police station. I felt like my world had ended. I even started questioning if she really was that incredible-if she was so amazing that every man in the world would lose their minds trying to protect her.”

“Amazing? Her entire survival strategy is pure predation,” Silas mocked coldly.

Kaia nodded. She completely agreed with that assessment.

“There are more videos on that old laptop. If you don’t want to see them, I’ll have Silas delete everything. Honestly, it doesn’t matter if you watch them or not. The outcome is the same. Both Rafael and Finnian favor her unconditionally.” Seraphina turned to look Kaia in the eye. “You’re Finnian’s wife. Sometimes I really wish you could be the one to tear her down, crush her little games, and rip off her mask so everyone can see the rotten core hiding underneath.”

Kaia’s heart skipped a beat. She stared back at Seraphina.

A deep sorrow flashed in Seraphina’s eyes. “Finnian controls the family now. My branch of the family doesn’t have much leverage in The Sanders

Conglomerate. I don’t dare confront Noelle… I can’t risk dragging my family down. The day the brothers brought that settlement to the hospital, I knew it was over.”

Kaia saw the profound helplessness in Seraphina’s expression. In the face of absolute power, personal grievances were easily erased.

“I hate that I’m powerless to get justice for my sister. But karma exists. The truth always comes out eventually. I don’t want you to walk down the same path, Kaia. That’s why I gave you those videos. I had my own selfish reasons for wanting you to see the truth,” Silas confessed, his face etched with guilt.

Kaia fully understood the gravity of the situation now. She nodded. “It’s fine. I’m grateful you shared them with me. They helped me wake up.”

After dinner, Kaia had planned to catch a cab back to the hotel, but Silas insisted on driving her, worried about her safety.

She didn’t turn down his offer. When she walked into her hotel suite, she found Finnian waiting in the living room, playing with Brynlee.

Finnian looked up as she entered, his gaze unreadable.

“Where were you? It’s late,” he asked, the question sounding deceptively casual.

“I had dinner with a friend.” She wanted to tell him she didn’t need to report her whereabouts, but catching sight of her daughter’s innocent eyes, she held back.

Finnian’s gaze lingered on her face for a moment before he spoke again. “I’ll take Brynlee to my room tonight. When are you planning to head back? We can leave together. Our flight is tomorrow afternoon.”

Kaia stiffened, instinctively refusing. “No, you take her back first. My parents and I still have friends to visit. We’ll head back the day after tomorrow.”

Brynlee blinked her dark eyes. “Are you really not coming with us, Mom?

Taking Dad’s private jet is so much easier.”

Kaia shook her head, her voice gentle. “I can’t, sweetie. I have some things to take care of. You and Dad go ahead.”

“Okay, but I don’t want to be away from you guys. Let Dad stay here tonight! The three of us can share the big bed,” Brynlee pleaded, hating the idea of her parents sleeping apart.

Kaia hadn’t expected the request. She was just trying to figure out how to say no when Finnian beat her to it. “Alright. I’ll stay here tonight.”

Kaia opened her mouth, but the words caught in her throat.

Jane and Warren, fresh from their showers in the adjoining room, knocked and came in. When they heard Finnian was staying, they both frowned.

“Does Brynlee want to sleep with me instead?” Jane offered.

Finnian’s gaze darkened. As he looked at Kaia, Brynlee shook her head vigorously. “No! I want to sleep right between Mom and Dad. I’m not sleeping with you, Grandma.”

Jane didn’t push the issue. Warren shot her a look, signaling her to drop it and let the kid stay.

Jane knew exactly what her husband was thinking. If this led to another pregnancy, the divorce would be delayed indefinitely.

She felt a heavy mix of frustration and disappointment. She had always pressured Kaia to have another child, preferably a boy, feeling it would make her life complete.

But now… this was just a mess.

Kaia went to take a shower. As the water ran, she formulated a plan regarding Finnian staying over.

On the car ride back, she and Seraphina had talked a bit more.

Seraphina had warned her that navigating the intricate web of the Sanders family required not just protecting her loved ones, but having the courage to flip the table entirely. Keeping Finnian in her room tonight-would that send Noelle’s imagination into overdrive?

Kaia remembered asking Seraphina if she still hated Noelle.

Seraphina had replied that the hatred was gone. It had consumed too much of her energy. But she would never see her again, nor would she ever forgive her. Erasing Noelle from her world entirely was the only way forward.
