Chapter 388
Chapter 388
There was a heavy silence on Finnian’s end. Instead of answering directly, he scolded, “Stop overthinking. Just rest. I’ll handle this.”
With that, he hung up.
Noelle’s smile widened. Finnian had been the one to push her away; now, he was going to be the one to snatch her back.
She had handed the power entirely over to him. He was the one making the choice.
It made her feel incredibly valued, and her heart skipped a beat.
A few minutes later, Finnian dialed Julian Kendrick.
“Julian, are you free for lunch? Let’s grab a bite,” Finnian asked.
Having received no response from Noelle, Julian quickly agreed. “Sure. I actually wanted to ask you about Noelle. She seems really busy lately.”
Finnian booked a highly private VIP room at an upscale restaurant. When Julian arrived, Finnian was already seated.
Julian walked in and looked around. “Such a big room for just the two of us?”
Finnian offered a tight smile. “Yeah. I have something I need to tell you.”
Julian nodded. “Perfect timing. I wanted to ask you something too. I tried asking Noelle out for lunch, but she hasn’t texted me back. Is Aethelstan completely swamped right now?”
Looking at Julian’s earnest, hopeful face, Finnian felt his chest tighten. He lowered his voice, laced with guilt. “Julian, pushing you and Noelle together was entirely my own decision. It didn’t reflect what Noelle actually wanted. I owe you an apology.”
Julian leaned back in his chair, a look of sudden realization mixed with a

complex wave of disappointment washing over him.
“I’m sorry. As your friend, I never should have treated your feelings like a joke,” Finnian said regretfully.
Julian froze for a moment, then let out a dry laugh. “Finnian, what exactly are you trying to do?”
Finnian looked him in the eye. “Julian, I invited you here today to tell you that… you and Noelle should just go back to being friends.”
Julian stared at him, his expression twisting. His voice hardened with frustration. “Are you messing with me, Finnian?
Finnian tensed, but his gaze remained resolute. “No, I–‘

“When you introduced us, you acted like you were dead serious about it. When she ran out, you told me to go after her. You handed me the opportunity. My crush was forced out into the open. Everyone knows I’m actively pursuing Noelle. I thought I was finally going to get my chance, and now you sit here and tell me to ‘go back to being friends’? You’re not just messing with me-you forced me to publicly admit to a pathetic, one-sided crush!” Julian’s chest felt like it was on fire. He had harbored those feelings for years, carefully protecting them, terrified of ruining their friendship. Finnian was the one who ripped the band-aid off.
Seeing the absolute devastation and betrayal on his friend’s face, Finnian was at a loss for words.

When Finnian remained silent, the disappointment in Julian’s eyes only deepened.
“We’ve known each other for twenty years. I know you’re not the type to play cruel jokes,” Julian said, looking completely exhausted. “What do you want? What do you want me to do?”
Staring at his friend who was teetering on the edge of a breakdown, Finnian’s lips moved, but all that came out was, “Julian, I’m sorry. I didn’t think this through.”

Julian shook his head with a bitter laugh. “Keep your apologies. Just give me a reason. Even if you say she never once considered me, or that I’m not good enough for her, or what exactly is wrong with me-just say it.”
Finnian closed his eyes. Images of Noelle collapsing, of her rushed into the ER, and the unborn child in her womb flashed through his mind.
“Julian, there are things I can’t tell you right now. Please just trust me. Me stepping in to stop this is for your own good,” Finnian insisted, refusing to reveal the truth.
Julian looked at him as if he had been slapped
“Really? For my own good? Or is it for your own good?” Julian sneered, his expression turning bleak. “You knew exactly how I felt about her. From a secret crush to an open pursuit-it’s a massive leap. I waited for years. Do you have any idea what that felt like? It was like seeing the sun after months of rain…”
Listening to him, Finnian felt sick to his stomach.
Julian’s gaze suddenly turned predatory, locking onto Finnian’s face. “You like her, don’t you, Finnian? Using me as a pawn made you realize your own feelings. You can’t bear to hand her over to anyone else. You just want to keep her trapped by your side, even if you have to use the ‘sister’ excuse to do it…”
Finnian’s face drained of color. A second later, he snapped back fiercely, “That’s not true, Julian. Don’t ever say that.”
Julian slammed his hands on the table and stood up. “Then tell me, what
is the truth?”
