Chapter 389

Chapter 389

Finnian’s breathing hitched: For a second, he almost blurted out the truth, but the fear of the secret getting out stopped him.

Finally, he gasped out, “Julian, I have always treated her like a sister. I care for her and look out for her. have absolutely none of the romantic feelings you’re accusing me of. Stop twisting the situation.”

Julian took a step back. Suddenly, he felt like he didn’t know Finnian at all. The rational, elegant man he thought he knew seemed shrouded in a thick fog.

“You just want to keep her for yourself. Stop denying it. We can all see it.”

“Julian, I’m warning you not to say that again,” Finnian said, his expression turning terrifyingly dark. “If we’re still friends, keep your mouth shut.”

Julian’s eyes were bloodshot, his genuine feelings trampled into the dirt. He tapped his finger hard against the table, his voice vibrating with rage. “This isn’t how friends treat each other. I hope you realize that.”

With that, Julian turned on his heel and stormed out.

Finnian sat frozen in his chair, staring at the slammed door. After a long while, he frustratingly downed a glass of red wine.

He never intended for things to blow up like this. The sheer fury in Julian’s eyes made Finnian feel incredibly exhausted.

But he absolutely could not reveal Noelle’s pregnancy. She was already suffering from horrible morning sickness. If the world found out she was pregnant now, she would be subjected to endless gossip and judgment. She was too sensitive to survive a public scandal. The consequences would be disastrous.

Sitting alone at the table, Finnian picked up his phone and texted Noelle: “I handled Julian.”

Chapter 389

Noelle replied instantly: “Okay. I understand.”

At 3 PM, Kaia was analyzing data in the Veridian lab when she was suddenly summoned to The Sanders Tower for an emergency board meeting.

Silas Sanders had also just received the notice. He waited for Kaia in the Veridian lobby. When she hurried over, she asked, “Why the sudden meeting? What happened?”

“No idea. They just said get over there immediately,” Silas replied, shrugging his shoulders. As the head of Veridian, he hadn’t been briefed either. “Probably another disaster. Let’s just go.”

The atmosphere in the top-floor boardroom of The Sanders Tower was suffocating.

Executives lined the long table. For Aethelstan Biopharma, Noelle was absent, leaving Dr. Gordon Hayes to stand in, flanked by two anxious vice presidents-one of whom was nervously clutching a stack of files, sweating profusely.

On Veridian’s side, Kaia sat next to Silas. She flipped open her laptop and immediately began typing, finalizing her lab report, her face a mask of absolute calm.

Silas’s eyes darted between the Aethelstan executives and the corporate board members, trying to read the room.

Once everyone was seated, Finnian walked in and took the head of the

table.

The projector flickered to life behind him, displaying a formal letter from Cytogene AG.

Everyone looked up, and a shockwave rippled through the room. Dead silence followed.

“Now that everyone’s here,” Finnian started, his voice low but

commanding total attention. “You’ve all seen Cytogene’s letter. Due to the

recent technical failures on Aethelstan’s end, Cytogene has developed serious concerns. Their current demand is that a portion of the core project be transferred to Veridian Future. This is a demand, not a request.”

As he spoke, Finnian’s dark eyes locked onto Kaia’s face for several seconds, but she didn’t so much as glance at him

On Aethelstan’s side, Gordon’s brow furrowed. He forced himself to speak up. “Mr. Sanders, this specific technology is the core of our partnership with Cytogene. If we transfer it out… Aethelstan will completely lose its standing with our partners. I beg you to consider Aethelstan’s future…”

Finnian stared at him blankly. “They gave us a seven-day deadline. Today is day two.”

No one in the room dared to argue further, but everyone understood the stakes. Surrendering the project was a public admission of Aethelstan’s technical incompetence.

It would be a fatal blow to Aethelstan’s reputation, and it would utterly shatter Noelle’s authority.

Finnian’s gaze shifted to Kaia and Silas. “What about Veridian? Do you have any objections?”

Silas threw his hands up in a ‘fine by me’ gesture, then leaned over and whispered to Kaia. After a brief exchange of glances, Kaia turned to Finnian. “Veridian can take it. But we have conditions.”

The boardroom went dead quiet. Finnian’s brow visibly darkened.

Silas looked at Kaia, a faint smirk playing on his lips.

Finnian leaned back in his chair, his tone unreadable. “Speak.”

Kaia’s voice was completely level. “First, once the technology is transferred, Veridian has absolute control over the R&D. Aethelstan has no right to interfere. Second, all subsequent intellectual property rights generated by this project belong solely to Veridian and its personnel.”

Chapter 389

The Aethelstan exccutives turned ashen. One of the tech directors Couldn’t hold back. “Dr. Chavez, those conditions are outrageous! You came from Aethelstan…”
