Chapter 405
Kaia’s eyes narrowed.
Noelle continued, her voice trembling and hoarse. “I’m all alone in the hospital room. I just woke up from a terrifying nightmare… I dreamed I lost the baby… I…”
Kaia had heard enough. “He’s in the shower. Do you want me to bring the phone to him?”
Dead silence on the other end. It was as if Noelle had stopped breathing. Then, her tone shifted, suddenly perfectly composed and apologetic. ‘Kaia, I’m so sorry to bother you. If Finnian is showering, please don’t disturb him. I’ll call him back later.”
Kaia hung up and tossed the phone back onto the nightstand.
Finnian usually showered in ten minutes, but this time, he had been in there for nearly half an hour. Kaia glanced at the door, half wondering if he had passed out.
Just as she was about to check, the door opened. He stepped out, looking slightly uncomfortable, without any steam billowing behind him-he must have taken a cold shower. He avoided her gaze.

‘Your phone rang. It was Noelle. She was disturbing my work, so I answered it.” Kaia saw no reason to hide it.
He looked surprised but remained calm. “Did she need something?”
Kaia stared at his composed face. “She said her stomach hurt. She also mentioned a nightmare about losing the baby.”
He froze mid-step toward the couch, snapping his head around to look at her.
Kaia stood by the bed, arms crossed, her expression arctic.
The air in the room seemed to freeze. He finally spoke. “I was planning to

tell you. Noelle… is pregnant.”
Kaia scoffed. “Is she? As the father, shouldn’t you be glued to her side, playing nurse?”
“What father?” He looked thoroughly insulted.
Seeing him deny it so vehemently, she sneered. “Finnian, you can act like a hypocrite all you want, but if she’s pregnant, the kid is yours. Cut the act. If you agree to divorce me right now and give me full custody of Brynlee, I’ll clear the path for her. I won’t make a scene. I’ll save you both the public humiliation…”
“Kaia, do you hear yourself?” His composure broke, his face flushing with indignation. “What does her pregnancy have to do with me? The baby is Rafael’s.”
She stared blankly for a second, then burst out laughing. It was such a ridiculous lie that her stomach actually ached from laughing.
“How long has your brother been dead? If you’re going to lie, at least try to make it believable.”
Seeing her mocking disbelief, he took a deep breath to steady himself. “They froze embryos in Canada three years ago. She had the transfer done recently. Can your mind not jump to the dirtiest conclusion? How could you suspect me?”
୮
Her laughter died on her lips. She stared at him in shock. “Really? Take a guess: do you think I believe that?”
He squeezed his eyes shut, frustrated. “Why wouldn’t you? Do you really think we’re having some illicit affair?”
“Yes. A highly illicit one,” she said coldly. “Your entire heart revolves around her. If she sheds a single tear, you ache for days. If another man so much as looks at her, the ever-so-refined Mr. Sanders throws a punch. When her career takes a hit, you fly overseas to negotiate for her. Finnian, you do things for her that a husband wouldn’t even do. And you expect

me to believe there’s nothing going on? Maybe you haven’t crossed the physical line out of fear of public shame, but emotionally? Intellectually? You’ve already cheated.”
He was stunned. Her words struck him like lightning.
When he remained silent, unable to argue with the facts, she continued.
“Call your precious sister back. Hearing my voice probably terrified her. We wouldn’t want to startle the baby.” She sat back down, picking up the Cytogene contract.
Silence built a heavy, invisible wall between them.
Moonlight spilled through the curtains, casting long shadows across the floor. She leaned against the headboard, letting the icy atmosphere
settle.
He stood paralyzed, his jaw tight, his voice finally breaking the silence, laced with fury. “Kaia, what the hell are you saying?”
She didn’t look up. “You heard exactly what I said.”
His breathing grew heavy. “You still don’t believe the baby is my brother’s? You’re dead set on believing I betrayed this marriage?”
