Whats She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 407

Kaia didn’t move, didn’t turn around, and didn’t make a sound.

Finnian let out a self-deprecating laugh. “My care for her did cross the line of a normal sibling relationship. I failed to set boundaries, and that hurt you as my wife. I’m sorry.”

She remained silent, eyes closed.

“I know you won’t believe me,” he continued, knowing she was listening. ‘But I truly never had any illicit intentions. My feelings for Noelle… have never been romantic.”

In the dark, her voice finally drifted over. “Finnian, are you telling me this because you want my forgiveness?”

He looked up, startled.

“Are you trying to convince me that as long as you didn’t sleep with her, you’ve done right by me and this marriage?”

He paled. That was exactly what he had thought.

She rolled over to face the couch. “Whatever you believe, I’ve made up my

mind. I want a divorce.”

He couldn’t be seen clearly in the dark, but his expression was

undoubtedly grim.

After a long silence, his voice came out hoarse. “Do we really have to do

this now?”

“What difference does the timing make? It’s been dragging on long enough. You owe me an answer.”

He went silent again, for so long she thought he wouldn’t reply. Then, he spoke three heavy words. “I won’t sign.”

She sat straight up, her voice rising. “You won’t sign? On what grounds?”

His tone grew.complicated. “We haven’t reached that point yet. Neither of us has committed a fundamental offense, have we?”

She couldn’t believe he was using that excuse. A fundamental offense? Emotional infidelity was far more disgusting than physical cheating. It deserved to be publicly shamed.

“Just admit it, Finnian. You don’t actually need me in your personal life. You just rely on me at work. You’re refusing the divorce because you need my professional help.” She had seen through him entirely. The moment her technical expertise became vital, his refusal to let her go was inevitable.

“Kaia…”

“Let me finish.” She raised a hand, hating being interrupted. “I know how you operate. Business comes first. Don’t worry, I can keep working for you after the divorce. But I’m putting a two-year cap on it. That’s my final offer.”

He stared at her through the dark. Her firm stance gave him a compromise, yet he couldn’t accept it.

“I’m sorry.” His mind was spinning. He leaned back against the couch, his voice tinged with guilt. “I know I haven’t been a good husband. I neglected your feelings. I didn’t care for you, protect you, or respect you the way I should have. I know I fell short.”

“You don’t get it.” Her voice was hard. “If you did, you wouldn’t force me to play the happy wife. You’ve never once considered my perspective. You always want to balance everything. You’re a brilliant executive, Finnian, but… I don’t want a husband like you anymore.”

The blow landed heavily, silencing him once again.

From the dark, she added, “This divorce is happening. I refuse to endure this life anymore. And as for Noelle, even if you never slept together, I see exactly who she is. I will not work with her, associate with her, or pretend she’s family.”

Chapter 407

Realizing she left zero room for negotiation, he suddenly asked, “Is there someone else?”

She froze, staring at him.

His tone turned mocking. “Who is the man in your diary? You’re really in love with him, aren’t you?”

Her anger flared. “Never touch my private things again.”

He took her anger as guilt for being exposed. “Who is it? Simon Quinn? You met him when you were seventeen. You shared an unforgettable past, and all these years later, he still has your heart, doesn’t he?”

She stayed quiet for a few seconds before asking calmly, “Finnian, do you really still think I’m leaving you for another man?”

He didn’t answer, though his breathing hitched.

She let out a faint, self-deprecating laugh. “Forget it. We’re past the point of arguing over this.”

He took her laugh as a deflection. “I hit the nail on the head, didn’t I? Are you feeling guilty?”

“Finnian…” She snapped, hurling a pillow at him.

It hit him squarely in the face. He didn’t dodge, just let out a muffled grunt

and tossed it aside.

“Go to sleep. It’s late. Let’s drop it for tonight,” he said, moving to lie down on the couch, ending the argument.

The next day’s schedule was packed. Under the harsh lights of the conference room, every nuance of expression was visible.

Kaia sat with the Veridian team, her laptop open, rigorously reviewing the technical clauses. The dense text was enough to give anyone a headache, but she read it three times. Not out of diligence, but because she felt off today and needed to be absolutely certain.
