Whats She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 424

Chapter 424

Kaia was smiling as she chatted with Simon. Whatever they were discussing, she brought a hand to the corner of her lips, ducking her head with a soft, almost shy smile.

It felt as if a needle had just been driven straight into Finnian’s heart. It wasn’t just a suffocating tightness anymore; it was sheer, agonizing pain. He had invited her to dinner with Brynlee that very afternoon, but she claimed she was working late, insisting the Cytogene project was urgent. Now it was painfully obvious that her urgency was nothing but an excuse. The overtime was a lie. She just didn’t want anyone interrupting her evening date with Simon.

Finnian tightened his grip on his daughter, his dark eyes turning icy. Dexter immediately picked up on his boss’s shifting mood. The assistant scanned the area and, sure enough, spotted Kaia sitting by the window.

Sitting across from Kaia was a handsome, refined-looking young man, and the two were clearly enjoying each other’s company.

Dexter’s stomach dropped. Oh crap, this was a disaster waiting to happen.

Once they entered their private dining room, Dexter quickly fetched a menu. “Mr. Sanders, why don’t you order some of Miss Brynlee’s favorites?”

Finnian stared at the menu, but the words blurred together. He couldn’t

focus at all.

He had seen Kaia eat with other men before. Occasionally, she would have one-on-one meetings with male colleagues. But none of those instances had hit him with such a brutal impact as this one. It hit him like a ton of bricks that he and Kaia were truly over. He had even lost the right

to be jealous..

Brynlee chattered happily beside him, poking her little head over and using her tiny hands to help turn the pages of the menu.

“Dexter, you help her pick I need to use the restroom.” Finnian was entirely distracted, his mind consumed by the image he had just seen downstairs.

She had just signed the divorce papers that morning. By evening, she was having a romantic dinner date with Simon, feeding him lies about

working overtime to brush him off.

Finnian stepped out of the private room. From the second-floor railing, he had a perfectly clear view of the booth below.

He watched as the waiter delivered a steak. Simon picked up his knife and fork, cutting the meat into bite-sized pieces. Kaia playfully reached over with her own fork, stealing a piece and popping it into her mouth. She laughed as she spoke, likely praising the flavor, while Simon just kept cutting, looking up at her with a tender smile.

Finnian felt as though thick wads of cotton had been shoved into his chest, stifling his every breath. He strode into the restroom and leaned heavily against the sink. The man staring back at him in the mirror had bloodshot eyes, with a few stray strands of hair falling over his

forehead-failing to hide the raw devastation and bitter jealousy in his

gaze.

When it came to romance, Finnian had always possessed a king-like arrogance. He never stooped to salvage lost affections, believing that an alpha like him was a natural magnet. People were supposed to gravitate toward him willingly.

But with Kaia, he felt like he had been bludgeoned over the head, completely caught off guard.

He had taken her devotion for granted. Now that she had withdrawn all her warmth and effort, he was the one left reeling and unmoored.

He realized the one in control was never him—it was the one who had poured their heart out. Only she had the power to finally say stop.

Finnian glared at the defeated man in the mirror. An unprecedented surge of emotion hijacked his brain, tossing logic and composure out the window.

He pushed himself off the sink and returned to the dining area. Just then, Brynlee announced she needed to go to the bathroom. Finnian took her small hand and led her out.

“Sweetheart, Mom is right down there. Why don’t you ask Mom to take you to the restroom? It’s a bit inconvenient for Dad,” Finnian said, pointing down to the window booth.

Brynlee’s dark eyes instantly lit up with joy. She asked excitedly, “Dad, Mom and Mr. Quinn are eating here too! Did you guys plan this?”
