Chapter 484
A moment later, Noelle walked in and sat down on the opposite sofa.
Kaia looked at her. “What were you trying to say earlier? You can speak now.”
Noelle took a deep breath. “Did you know he had feelings for me when we were teenagers?”
Kaja didn’t reply; she merely watched her.
Noelle looked down and smiled–a look of secret triumph mixed with a hint of self–mockery. “He admitted it himself. I could tell even back then. He looked at me differently. He would subconsciously worry about me, care about who I was talking to, and get cold and distant if other guys got too close to me…”
Kaia leaned back into the sofa, her arms crossed as she listened. “And your point is?” she asked smoothly.
Noelle faltered, an inexplicable wave of panic washing over her at Kaia’s profound calm.
Swallowing hard, she summoned her courage. “So, have you ever thought about why you were the one who ended up marrying him?”
“I never really thought much about it, but all the outside rumors certainly gave me a few ideas. You’re trying to say I’m just your substitute, right?” Kaia calmly took a sip of her tea. “How does it feel to be completely crushed professionally by your own substitute?”
Noelle’s face drained of color, her fingers violently gripping her skirt. Anger flared in her eyes. “He loved me! He’ll never forget me for the rest of his life. He only married you because I married Rafael. He couldn’t have me, so he had to settle for the next best thing…”
“Noelle,” Kaia interrupted. “Are you bragging right now?”
Noelle opened her mouth, but no words came out.
“Love is supposed to be sacred. You married one man while supposedly loving another. If you’re willing to trample all over love, why do you keep using it as your battle cry?” Kaia asked, her voice icy.
Noelle’s complexion grew paler by the second.
Kaia didn’t stop; she pressed the attack with a mocking tone. “You paint yourself as this tragic romantic, yet you still married Rafael instead of choosing him. Why is that? Let me take a guess–and if I’m right, try not to panic.”
Noelle went completely rigid.
“Because Rafael was the most likely candidate to inherit control of The Sanders Family’s empire. You came from a small town. You clawed your way up from the bottom. The thing you value most could never be something as intangible as love. What you crave is power

you can hold in your hands and money you can command. That is the exact reason you chose Rafael.”
“Kaia…” Noelle leaped to her feet, humiliated and enraged, her face turning an ugly shade of ash. “How can you spout such garbage? I was forced to marry Rafael! It wasn’t my choice
