Chapter 493
Seeing Kais standing by her car, Simon quickly parked and walked over. Kala, what a coincidence. You’re picking up the kids today?”
Kale offered him a smile and was about to speak when the passenger door opened Finniar tall frame stepped between them. Whether intentional or not, he shielded Kaia behind her, glaring at Simon. “You must have a lot of free time on your hands, Mr. Quinn, to be here picking up kids every day.”
Simon chuckled. “Well, my office isn’t far from here, and it doesn’t take much time.”
“Those in high positions sure have the luxury of time, Finnian mocked.
Simon looked momentarily taken aback.
Kala caught the venom in Finnian’s words. She stepped around him toward Simon. “Ignore him. He’s always got a toxic mouth,”
“Kala…” Finnian hadn’t expected her to humiliate him right in front of her lover.
She shot him a glance over her shoulder. “Are you here to pick up Brynlee? If so, stay here. I need to head back to the office. If not, please leave.”
“I’ll pick her up. You go back to work,” Finnian muttered sullenly.
Kaia had indeed received a work call on her way over. Since Finnian was willing to take over, she wouldn’t fight him for it. She turned to Simon. “I’m heading back. Let’s catch up another day.”
“Sure. Drive safe,” Simon replied.
Kaia got back into her car, reversed, and drove off.
Finnian and Simon stood facing each other in a tense standoff. It only ended when Simon took a call and walked toward the school gates, breaking the heavy silence.
Soon enough, Brynlee Sanders and Anna Quinn walked out hand in hand.
Finnian took one look and felt a wave of frustration. As much as he wanted to ignore Simon, the man was already crouching down, chatting with his precious daughter. He even handed Brynlee a small spinning toy. She grinned from ear to ear, clearly thrilled.
“Dad, did you bring me a present? If you did, I want to give one to Anna,” Brynlee asked, looking up at him.
Finnian instinctively reached into his black coat pocket, then gave an apologetic look. “I rushed over and didn’t bring anything. But I can take you to buy one.”
“That’s okay. The one Mr. Quinn gave me is enough,” Brynlee said cheerfully.

Simon scooped up little Anna. Having no desire to engage with Finnian, he prompted Ann.to say goodbye to Brynlee.
The two girls waved at each other, and Simon drove off with his niece.
Finnian picked up his daughter, watching her happily play with the toy. A sour feeling twisted in his chest.
She seemed to really like Simon Quinn.
The guy was clearly good at winning people over. One little toy, and he had bought his daughter’s trust.
Finnian took her straight to his office. Remembering what she had said during their last dinner together felt like a knife to his heart.
