Even while engaged in conversation and seemingly absorbed, Finnían noticed a young investor holding a drink, trying multiple times to greet Kaia but finding no opening. When he finally managed to join the conversation and said something to her, Kaia smiled at him. The young man flushed, ducked his head, and handed over his business card with both hands.
Finnian’s brow furrowed slightly as he took in the scene.
Did the outside world already know their marriage was over? Was that why they were trying so hard to show off in front of Kaia?
Finnian glanced down at his nearly empty wine glass. Dexter approached at just the right moment to ask if he wanted a refill. Finnian set the glass down casually on a nearby bar counter, feeling as though a piece of his heart had been abruptly torn away.
First thing tomorrow morning, Kaia would meet him at city hall to finalize their divorce.
She truly didn’t want to wait a second longer. Their daughter’s understanding was the final nail in the coffin, leaving Finnian with no excuse to keep her trapped in their marriage.
“Mr. Sanders…” Dexter noticed his boss was in a foul mood and could easily guess the reason.
“It’s fine.” Finnian waved a hand, and Dexter stepped back.
Ultimately, Finnian picked up another glass of wine and threaded his way through the crowd until he stood before Kaia.
Kaia, of course, had noticed him approaching. She had scanned the room earlier and hadn’t seen Noelle. Usually, during high–profile moments like this, Noelle would stand next to Finnian, looking composed but deliberately asserting her supposedly irreplaceable position.
What was different today? Did Noelle skip the event?
Well, it made sense. She had recently undergone a Fetal Reduction Surgery and needed rest. She couldn’t walk much or drink alcohol, so her absence was expected.
“Kaia, can we talk in private?” Finnian asked, his voice low.
His dark eyes were involuntarily drawn to her beautifully made–up face. He had always known she had perfectly proportioned, classic features, but looking closer today, the makeup added a touch of vibrant allure to her.
“If it’s about going to city hall tomorrow morning, then sure.” Kaia looked at the face that had once haunted her dreams. In the past, she wouldn’t have dared joke with him, terrified he would take it seriously or that she would say the wrong thing and anger him.
Now, that fear was completely gone.
“Do we have to talk about that right now?” Finnian frowned.
“What else is there for us to talk about?” Kaia took a small sip of her wine. “We can’t exactly discuss the technical side of things either.”
Finnian froze.

Chapter 502
“Can’t we talk about something else? We were married; can we really not find a single topic of conversation?” Finnian lowered his voice and took two steps closer to her.
A cold, woody scent wafted over her, and Kaia instinctively took a step back.
Just then, Silas walked over, holding his wine glass, and chuckled. “Congratulations, Finnian. The group has taken another big step forward.”
After speaking, Silas turned a smiling gaze to Kaia. “Kaia, have you toasted Mr. Sanders yet?”
Kaia knew Silas was doing this on purpose. He looked like he was helping, but he was actually fanning the flames.
Finnian’s gaze darkened as he glared at Silas. “Shouldn’t you be calling her your sister–in–law?”
