Chapter 515

Chapter 515

Though Kaia didn’t want to inconvenience him, she really couldn’t manage the bags on her own. She set them down and gathered her daughter into her arms first.

Finnian naturally picked up the shopping bags, along with the purse she always carried. He couldn’t remember if he had been the one to buy her this specific bag, but it seemed like she had been using it for years. Over time, he had bought her plenty of others. Every time a new season dropped, he had Dexter send a few to the house. Even now, they were all still sitting untouched in her walk-in closet. When she moved out, she hadn’t taken any of the jewelry or designer items.

She truly wasn’t greedy, or perhaps, she just didn’t want anything from him anymore.

Finnian followed the mother and daughter toward the elevator. The warm hallway lights spilled over Kaia’s slender frame. Carrying a child who was nearly four feet tall was clearly taking a toll on her.

Finnian’s breath caught in his throat. Now that he knew the truth, the way he viewed Kaia seemed to shift entirely. He used to believe she was holding onto someone else in her heart. He thought that even when they were intimate, she might be imagining him as another man. For a man’s pride, that felt like an insult. That insecurity had been one of the main reasons Finnian had been so distant all these years.

He shadowed her every step. There was a question he desperately wanted to ask, but it remained lodged in his throat.

He didn’t exactly have the right to demand why she was out having dinner with another man anymore.

And Kaia clearly had no intention of explaining herself.

Finnian felt a twinge of regret. If only he had taken the time to learn more about her life back then, maybe he’d have something to talk about now.

Even idle chatter about the weather or how Brynlee was doing in school would be better than this silence.

“Just set the bags in the elevator, you can head back,” Kaia said suddenly as the elevator doors slid open and Finnian stepped forward to join her.

Finnian froze, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he nodded. “Alright.”

He tucked her purse inside one of the shopping bags and placed it gently

on the floor beside her.

The elevator doors closed, leaving Finnian standing rigidly in the hallway.

Inside the elevator, Brynlee stirred slightly against her mother’s shoulder. Her little hands clung tightly to Kaia’s collar. Breathing in her mother’s familiar scent, she murmured sleepily, “Where did Daddy go?”

Kaia comforted her softly, “Daddy went back to his house. If you miss him, you can go see him tomorrow, okay?”

“Okay!” Satisfied with the answer, Brynlee drifted back to sleep.

A week had passed. Noelle Lawrence received a call from the office regarding some handover tasks she needed to finalize in person.

The sky was just beginning to lighten. Noelle checked the time—it was only 6:30 AM, but she couldn’t sleep.

She dug through her closet but couldn’t find a single outfit she liked. Finally, she settled on a deep blue maxi dress paired with a beige trench coat. The waistline was incredibly loose, hiding her figure completely and making her look every bit the pregnant woman she was.

Pearl was already up, bustling around the kitchen with the two maids preparing breakfast. Seeing Noelle downstairs so early, she asked with concern, “Noelle, why didn’t you sleep a little longer?”

Noelle replied flatly, “I have to head into the office to take care of a few things today, so I wanted to get an early start.”
