Whatever. There was no point dwelling on the past. Focusing on the future was all that mattered now.
At the Holistic Wellness Center, the patient load had dropped by half due to the holidays. Kaia only had about a dozen appointments for the afternoon, giving her a rare moment of downtime. She ordered lunch from a highly–rated nearby spot for her staff. When the food arrived, the nurses were thrilled.
After taking a few bites, Kaia looked up to see an elderly doctor walking in with a warm smile.
“Dr. Croft! What brings you here?” Kaia stood up and walked over to greet him.
He was a renowned specialist in holistic medicine and an old friend of Kaia’s grandmother. He had mentored Kaia extensively over the years.
“Kaia, did you get the Bespoke Vitality Elixir?”
Kaia froze. Nearby, the nurses who had been crowded around the food all turned to look at her with teasing, knowing smiles.
Kaia quickly brewed a pot of tea and invited Dr. Croft into her office to chat.
“Dr. Croft, I’m not sure I understand what you’re talking about,” Kaia said, laughing softly as she poured the tea.
“Feeling shy?” Dr. Croft chuckled. “A few days ago, Mr. Sanders came to see me. He said he wanted to prepare a custom restorative tonic for a woman. I gave him some recommendations, and he personally handpicked every single ingredient. He stood right there and watched our apprentices brew it using traditional methods. At the very end, he even tied an intricate knot on the gift box himself. Are you telling me that wasn’t for you?”
Kaia’s hand stiffened on the teapot. Her eyelashes fluttered, but she maintained her smile. “Is it a slow day for you, Dr. Croft? Are you out doing holiday shopping? I was planning to visit you and your wife soon.”
“No rush. I’ll finish this tea before I head out. My wife sent me on an errand. My grandson is flying in, and I need to stock up on all his favorite treats. Come over whenever you want–just call ahead so my wife can prepare your favorite dishes.”
Kaia chatted with him about holiday plans for a while until her next patient arrived, at which point Dr. Croft finally took his leave.
After finishing her consultations and writing up her charts, Kaia felt all the energy drain out of her body.
She remembered the spring right after Brynlee was born. It had been freezing. Postpartum

recovery had left her weak, and her hands and feet were constantly ice–cold. Finnian had personally gone to Dr. Croft, who prepared a box of the Bespoke Vitality Elixir for her. It had worked wonders. Later, Dr. Croft had told her they used her family’s secret recipe–a proprietary blend of roasted black sesame and premium medicinal collagen, infused with rare, restorative herbs.. Slow–cooked to perfection, it provided incredible results without being overly sweet or heavy.
Now, Finnian had gone out of his way to make the exact same elixir. But who was he giving it
to?
That evening, Kaia received an invitation from a prominent medical professor for a seminar on preventing spring viral outbreaks. Since she had recently signed a partnership with him, she couldn’t refuse and arrived on time. On her way there, she texted Finnian, asking him to go home early to be with their daughter.
He replied with a simple “Okay,” and then asked where she was going.
She didn’t text back.
The venue was an upscale, private lounge. Just as Kaia was about to walk in, she heard a familiar female voice.
“I had no idea it took so long to brew! You have to let it cool, slice it, and separate the layers with rice paper. It’s incredibly tedious. But it’s actually amazing for cold hands and feet. I’ve only been taking it for two days, and I already feel so much more energetic. I’m not freezing all the time anymore,” Noelle was chatting cheerfully with the group.
“That’s a very unique holiday gift, Ms. Sanders. Whoever gave it to you must have put a lot of thought into it,” an envious woman chimed in.
Noelle laughed softly. “Yes. To get it made, he spent two whole afternoons just sitting at the apothecary.”
“No wonder you look so radiant! How old are you again? Your skin is flawless–you look like a teenager!”
“I’m twenty–seven.”
“I would have never guessed! You look so young.”
Noelle smiled demurely. “You’re just trying to flatter me.”
Just then, a voice called out from behind Kaia. “Dr. Chavez! Did you just arrive? Let’s go in together.”
Kaia walked in alongside another professor.
The moment she stepped inside, she saw Noelle. Whether it was her makeup or a genuine boost in vitality, she was glowing. Dressed impeccably and wearing a diamond necklace, she looked every inch the wealthy socialite.
“Kaia, you made it!” Noelle stood up to greet her.
Everyone in the room knew they were sisters–in–law, both now holding powerful positions. within the Sanders Conglomerate.

Seeing the two beautiful, brilliant Sanders women side–by–side, the crowd couldn’t help but marvel. The Sanders brothers were incredibly lucky. One had married the glamorous, elegant Noelle, and the other had married the refined, brilliant Kaia. It was a shame the eldest brother had passed away so young. Everyone silently wondered who the beautiful widow would end up with next.
