Anneliese's limbs became limp, and her face turned pale.
"Grandma, do you really hate him that much?" she asked in a trembling voice.
Anneliese knew Nishay had a knot in her heart, but she never imagined it was to this extent.
Nishay stared at her and said sharply, "Yes! If it weren't for him, your family wouldn't be dead! Your mother was about to give birth!" Her voice was hoarse yet piercing. Tears filled the brim of her eyes, and she clutched her chest tightly.
Looking at her reaction, Anneliese was terrified. She reached out and wanted to soothe Nishay's chest, but the latter slapped her hand away.
Smack!
A red mark quickly surfaced across the back of Anneliese's hand. She ignored it and tried to pour water, wanting to give Nishay some emergency medicine. However, Nishay knocked the water cup away too.
"You just have to be with him, don't you?" Nishay panted, glaring at her.
Anneliese bit her lips and said, "Grandma, I… Breaking up with him isn't that simple…"
"What do you mean?"
Anneliese gritted her teeth and said, "Grandma, we're already married."
Hearing her words, Nishay was in disbelief. She couldn't believe what she was hearing.
Seeing her blank gaze, Anneliese was terrified Nishay would faint from the shock.
"Grandma, don't scare me. I'll get the doctor…"
Slap!
Before Anneliese could turn around, a heavy slap landed on her face.
Unlike the earlier unintentional slap on the hand, the slap this time was full strength.
In that split second, Anneliese's cheek instantly stung.
She held her face and stared at Nishay in disbelief.
Since childhood, neither Nishay nor her adoptive parents had ever hit her. Even during those three years after her parents died, when Nishay's emotions were at their worst, she never laid a finger on Anneliese either.
Although she had been slapped many times by the White family, she never knew that being slapped by someone you love would hurt like hell.
The pain in her heart was far worse than the pain on her face.
Feeling hurt, wronged, panicked, and wounded, tears immediately fell from Anneliese's eyes.
Nishay was stunned too. When she regained her senses, she reflexively tried to reach out, but she quickly withdrew her hand and scolded harshly, "I can't believe you did something like this! Are all men dead to you? Why do you insist on staying with the man who killed your family? You are a traitor! Your parents shouldn't have adopted you in the first place! Get out!"
Those words were too cruel.
Anneliese's mind turned blank, and her face went as pale as a ghost.
