Chapter 382

When Jasper finally found Cassian, he was sitting by the fountain in front of the hotel.

The fountain had been kept running all night for the birthday celebration thrown by Joseph.

Cassian was not just soaked to the bone; he looked chilled all the way through.

Seeing that he was okay, Jasper let out a long sigh of relief.

Cassian was so out of it, he just went wherever Jasper led him, too tired to resist.

Jasper had to hold him up the whole way.

Jasper wasted no time getting him into the car and speeding back to the hotel, eager to get Cassian into some dry clothes.

He felt like a mother hen fussing over Cassian right now.

Jasper was still rambling when Cassian interrupted out of nowhere.

‘What else could make Cassian snap like that, actually kick a woman?‘ Jasper wondered.

“So, you actually saw Aurelia? Did you get to talk to her?” Jasper asked, curiosity written all over his face.

If he really saw Aurelia and got to talk to her, he should be over the moon, Jasper thought.

‘So why does he look like he just got hit by a truck?‘ he wondered

Cassian sat in silence for ages before finally mumbling. “She said she doesn’t love me anymore.

Just as I thought, another blow, Jasper sighed inwardly.

Seeing Cassian so downcast, Jasper’s heart went out to him all over again.

He tried to comfort him. “Cassian, maybe you should just let it go,

“I mean, it’s been five years. Aurelia’s already gotten over it.

“Dragging this out is only hurting you, Cassian,” Jasper said.

‘What if he gets pushed too far and just loses it?‘ Jasper worried.

Cassian just shook his head. “No.”

“I’m only now starting to really feel what she must’ve felt, but honestly, my pain doesn’t even come close to what she went through,” he muttered, voice barely audible.

‘God, just how much did she suffer back then?‘ Cassian thought, his chest tightening with guilt.

Every time he pictured everything Aurelia had endured, it was like someone was ripping his heart out with their bare hands.

Jasper grew even more worried. “Cassian, if you keep this up, you’re only making yourself suffer.”

Cassian just said, “I deserve every bit of it.”

Guess this is just what coming back to bite me,’ he thought.

‘But what if Aurelia never forgives you? What if she never takes you back?” Jasper pressed, his voice gentle but insistent.

Cassian’s eyes, already heavy with sorrow, now grew rimmed with red at the corners.

That question left him speechless.

In the car, Darren glanced at Aurelia and asked, “Are you okay? Did you get hurt?”

‘No,‘ she said, hugging her coat closer, feeling a bit uneasy.

Thankfully, Darren didn’t ask any more questions. He always respected her boundaries.

Once he’d dropped her off, Darren just said he had something to do and headed out.

Every time Aurelia came to Grendel and needed to stay at the Keith Estate, Darren would always find some excuse to leave.

He never stayed at the estate himself, just so Aurelia wouldn’t feel uncomfortable.

As soon as Aurelia stepped into the hall, Joey came running over and threw herself into her arms.

“Why aren’t you asleep yet?” Aurelia asked, a little surprised.

‘I can’t sleep when you’re not here,” Joey said, her voice soft and a little pouty.

Luckily, Aurelia had made it back early. Otherwise, Joey would’ve stayed up late just to wait for her

“Let’s go, time for bed!” Aurelia said, gently leading Joey toward the stairs.

While Aurelia was in her room taking off her makeup, Joey kept going over to the window, watching outside.

Aurelia asked her what she was looking at, and Joey told her, “Someone’s been following you

Aurelia had no idea.

Not sure if they were targeting her or Joey, Aurelia told Darren about it.

Darren replied, “That’s one of the bodyguards I arranged.”

Darren said, “I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want you to get anxious, so I had them follow you quietly. Now that you know, I’ll have Rex get in touch with you directly. If anything comes up, you can reach out to him anytime.”

“Alright,” Aurelia agreed without hesitation.

After what happened to her in Grendel before, she figured it was better to be safe than sorry.

Early the next morning, Rex showed up to introduce himself, letting her know he’d be in charge of her safety while she was in Grendel.

The Keith family’s staff said Rex had been with Darren for ten years and was seriously skilled. He could handle just about anything.

With him around, Aurelia didn’t have to worry about her safety at all.

‘I heard you’ve been working with Mr. Keith for years. Do you know about the kidnapping in Grendel that happened to me five years ago?” she asked.

Rex nodded. “Yeah, I know. I was with Mr. Keith when we went to look for you, and we tracked down those them over to the authorities.”

‘Do you know the person who saved me?” Aurelia pressed, asking right away.

Darren had told her before that the one who saved her was one of his bodyguards.
