Chapter 397
Chapter 397
Before getting into the car, Herbert sent Mia a message. He wasn’t even sure if Mia had blocked him again.
Meanwhile, Mia was at a dessert shop with Aurelia, enjoying some treats.
It was her habit. Whenever she was feeling down, she’d reach for something sweet. That was why Aurelia had brought her
here.
She was halfway through her third dessert when her phone buzzed. It was a text from Herbert. And when Mia saw the number pop up, she suddenly remembered she’d forgotten to block him again.
Before opening it, she turned to Aurelia and said, “It’s from that bastard. Wonder what kind of bullshit he’s trying to pull this time?”
Mia glanced at the message and scoffed, “Figures, it’s all bullshit!”
Aurelia asked, “What did he say?”
Mia read it out loud, “Leonie was never the problem between us. If you want, I’ll transfer 5% of the Norman Group shares to your name right now. Let’s drop the whole divorce thing. No one’s allowed to bring it up again.”
Aurelia snorted, “Yeah, total bullshit!”
Five percent of the shares was a lot, enough to win over plenty of people. But Herbert was totally clueless about Mia.
He didn’t even know her as well as Aurelia did. Mia’s dream life was to be a carefree freeloader, just having enough cash to get by.
What Herbert thought was a tempting offer was worth nothing to her. Mia set her spoon aside, fired off a quick one–liner to Herbert, and hit send.
Then, without missing a beat, she blocked his number again. Finally, she locked her phone and went back to her dessert, feeling carefree and content.
Just as the car started rolling, Herbert got a text back from Mia. Seeing her reply pop up so fast, Herbert let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding.
‘She must’ve seen my offer and decided to cave. Guess she’s finally done raising hell, Herbert thought.
But the moment he opened the message, his expression instantly turned icy.
Leonie had been watching Herbert’s face all along. She knew the text was from Mia, and when she saw Herbert’s brows relax after reading it, she felt a pang in her chest.
She couldn’t stand it when Herbert’s attention was on Mia. Just as she was plotting how to win his attention back, his face suddenly darkened again.
She immediately asked, “Herbert, what’s wrong? Was that a message from Mia? What did she say?”
Herbert didn’t answer right away. Instead, his face darkened as he shot back a reply to Mia. He texted her: [Seriously, where are your manners?]
Leonie saw Mia’s message too. It was a simple reply: [If you’re sick, get help. If you’re not, drop dead. Stop bugging me!]
Leonie felt a wave of relief, and she couldn’t help but let a tiny smirk slip across her lips. ‘Mia’s still clueless about guys, as

always,’ Leonie thought.
‘Who’d actually like a girl with a temper like hers? She’s just making Herbert want to stay away from her even more, Leonie mused.
That was exactly what Leonie wanted; it’d make it so much easier for her to slide right in when the time’s right. “Herbert, don’t be mad at Mia,” Leonie said, sounding sympathetic. “She’s always had a sharp tongue, never holds back what she says.
“She used to give my dad a real headache. She was always getting in trouble at school, and the teachers kept calling my dad in. When he tried to be stricter with her, she just resented him and went around telling everyone he was mean to her.
Leonie added, “Honestly, my dad just didn’t raise her well.”
Herbert frowned. “It’s just her personality. You guys have done your best.”
“Mia really seems upset this time. Maybe you should stay here in Grendel City and try to comfort her. I can make my way back alone,” Leonie suggested, sounding thoughtful and considerate.
Before Leonie.could finish, Arielle, in the front seat, spoke up, her voice tinged with worry. “But there are tons of reporters waiting at the Northvale airport. If Mr. Norman’s not there, they’ll definitely make things difficult for you.”
Herbert frowned. “I’ll take you back first. Mia has her friends, but you
only have…”
“Then what about Mia…” Leonie asked hesitantly.
“She’s still pissed off. She won’t listen to a word I say right now,” Herbert replied, rubbing his forehead in exhaustion.
Leonie sighed. “I’m just worried Mr. Lavell might try to swoop in while she’s upset. The way he looked at her earlier was definitely not normal.”
Herbert’s hand froze for a second, then he grumbled, “You’re reading too much into it. She’s obviously just trying to make me jealous by cozying up to Zane.”
She’d played this game before, and he knew it well. He wasn’t going to indulge her; there was only so much drama he’d tolerate. So he left her to cool off on her own.

Once she’d polished off her desserts, Mia headed back to the hotel and slept like a log for two days straight.
After making sure Mia was fine, Aurelia finally turned her attention to sorting out her own drama.
No one even asked what kind of drama she had been caught up in. She hadn’t even been able to bring herself to talk about
It had been almost three days since the incident, and Cassian hadn’t made a single move. He wasn’t even trying to make his presence felt in front of her like he used to.
‘Did he finally give up? If that’s the case, that’d actually be pretty nice,‘ she thought.
But what happened that night was still gnawing at Aurelia. She worried that if she didn’t sort it out, it could end up causing
her trouble later.
Eventually, Aurelia grabbed her phone and finally called Cassian. She wanted to talk things out with him face–to–face.
The call went through, but no one picked up.
