When the World Ends, She Begins novel Chapter 27

Natalie approached carefully and turned the stun baton to full power. She quickly took each of the cattle down, one after another.

Even after they were all on the ground, she wasn't completely sure they were out, so she zapped each one again before starting the bleed-out.

Once she was done with all 30 cattle, the area was in complete chaos.

After she had stored every cattle inside her storage space, Lucky suddenly growled with tension, her fur spiking up.

"What is it?"

She looked in the direction Lucky was staring, and noticed the tall grass nearby rustling slightly, along with faint sounds.

Within seconds, a grayish-black boar stepped out slowly from the bushes.

The strong smell of blood must have drawn it there. Its big frame was full of muscle, and its bristles stood up like spikes.

As soon as it spotted Natalie, its angry eyes locked onto her, and it charged with its tusks exposed.

Panicking, Natalie yelled, "Lucky, run!"

They both turned around and ran as fast as they could.

This wasn't some chubby farm pig, or tame animals like chickens, ducks, cattle, or lambs—it was a real wild animal.

A boar that size, nearly 180 pounds, had the strength to knock over even a 330-pound tiger.

Natalie wasn't about to risk her life trying to fight something like that.

She and Lucky ran as fast as they could, but the wild boar was quickly closing the gap.

With no other choice, she picked up Lucky and dashed into her storage space to escape.

Once inside, she dropped onto the soft sofa, holding her dog tightly. Both of them finally let out a breath of relief.

The wild boar's presence had been so overwhelming that her first instinct had been to run. In the panic, she nearly forgot about the one thing that could've saved her life—her storage space.

After waiting a bit and thinking the wild boar had probably wandered off, Natalie left Lucky behind and pulled a knife from her storage space to check.

But as soon as she stepped out, her eyes met a fierce, glaring stare.

What!

Why is the wild boar still there?

Natalie's heart jumped, and she rushed back into her storage space without hesitation.

That wild boar, seeing a human vanish into thin air again, let out a frustrated snort and started pawing at the ground.

How could that weak two-legged creature keep vanishing like that?

Inside her storage space, Natalie sat down and thought hard. This wasn't just any wild animal—it was smart—smart enough to lie in wait like a predator.

But hiding forever wasn't an option. Once time ran out, there'd be nowhere left to run.

So, after taking a deep breath to steady her nerves, she grabbed a triangular bayonet and stepped back out.

Wait, where's the boar?

Why aren't I touching the ground?

Natalie looked down and nearly screamed. No way! I'm sitting right on the wild boar's back!

Natalie was in a total panic. So this is what they mean by being stuck between a rock and a hard place.
