Evelina was now eagerly hoping that Lemira and Orion would end up together.
If that happened, the Langston family's social standing would rise, and she'd have the chance to mingle with even wealthier people—maybe even steal someone away from Lemira herself.
When Lemira heard Evelina's words, she strode forward and slapped her across the face.
Evelina immediately burst into tears. “Lemmy, I was only saying all that for your own good!”
Lemira sneered. “You know exactly what your intentions are. Do you really think every man will fall for your little act?”
“Lemmy, I’m engaged now—why would I have any designs on Mr. Everhart?”
Evelina quickly looked at Orion. “Mr. Everhart, Lemmy’s always been hot-tempered. Please don’t misunderstand her.”
That tone only made Lemira angrier.
Orion caught the flash of anger on Lemira’s face, and a hint of a smile flickered in his eyes.
So, she did still care about him.
Orion stepped over to Lemira’s side, fixing Evelina with a cold look. “Lemira’s right. With acting skills like yours, you should be in show business. I’m not blind, you know.”
Evelina’s expression turned awkward. “It was all just a misunderstanding.”
“Eve, come here! Stop trying to kiss up to them. Have some self-respect! Lemira just wants to see us humiliated so she can gloat.”
Evander went to pull Evelina away, but a sharp pain shot through his leg. He stumbled and collapsed to the ground, his prosthetic limb coming off with a clatter.
Lemira’s lips curled into a cold smirk. “Looks like your company’s product quality is pretty mediocre. No amount of made-up love stories can cover that up.”
Evander called out to Evelina for help. “Eve, help me up!”
Evelina glanced at him on the ground with a flash of disgust in her eyes, but still went over to help him up.

Orion’s gaze turned ice-cold. “Why don’t we see about that?”
“Asher, let’s go. I’d like to see what this so-called Mr. Everhart thinks he can do!”
Evander grabbed Asher, intending to leave, but Asher didn’t budge. He stared at Orion. “What exactly do you want?”
“According to your family’s old traditions, if you want mercy, you need to apologize.”
Orion looked straight at Asher. “This is something your family has always excelled at. Now it’s finally your turn—you should know exactly how it works.”
Asher’s face darkened. “In your dreams.”
“So you want to do this the hard way? Fine,” Orion said, beckoning with his hand. “I’m curious to see if your legs are as tough as your mouths.”
At his signal, several large, imposing men surrounded them.
