Lemira hadn’t expected the owner of PZ Group to attend the wedding.
She remembered that in her previous life, the man behind PZ Group had always kept a very low profile, seldom appearing in public or socializing with others—he would always send his people to handle business on his behalf. It wasn’t until PZ Group collapsed that the mysterious boss was finally arrested. Even then, there was barely any information about him. That was what made things difficult for Lemira now.
Orion hadn’t managed to uncover anything more either; he was careful not to alarm anyone, making sure not to draw attention to his investigation. They were all waiting for a lead from Evelina’s side—hoping to catch Evelina’s father.
As Lemira stayed silent, Evander assumed he’d managed to scare her.
With obvious pride, Evander announced, “Our wedding will be right here in this villa. We’ve invited a lot of important and influential people. There are so many companies dying to work with PZ Group, but they never even get the chance. They clearly value our family—the Langstons!”
Evelina also looked pleased with herself. “Lemmy, after the wedding, I’ll have all the decorations changed back. Does that sound good to you?”
Lemira kept her face expressionless, neither agreeing nor objecting. She was actually rather curious to meet the head of PZ Group herself.
Lucian tried to ease the tension. “If Lemmy isn’t saying no, that’s as good as a yes. She’s just all talk, really.”
Evelina felt a wave of irritation, convinced that Lemira was being difficult on purpose.
She deliberately showed off the necklace around her neck. “Well then, thank you, Lemmy. Do you like my necklace? Evander insisted on buying it for me today.”
Evander chimed in boastfully, “We’re about to get married, of course I’m going to get you the best. Unlike some people who only look glamorous on the outside but actually have nothing.”
Lucian could tell exactly who Evander was referring to. He looked at Lemira, his expression complicated. Who would have thought the penniless school medic was actually the Everhart heir? Lucian found it odd—why would someone of his status work at a school, and why was he so close to Lemira? If it was just a coincidence, it seemed a little too perfect.
He couldn’t help but ask, “Lemmy, how are things between you and Mr. Everhart?”
“It is what it is,” Lemira replied nonchalantly.
As soon as she said that, Evelina put on a smug face. “Lemmy, don’t take it too hard. After all, Mrs. Eileen doesn’t like you, so there’s not much Mr. Everhart can do.”
