Felix’s forehead glistens with sweat and it drips down his temple. He’s done the math in his head. Two ways this can go….jail or jail.

“Elena, please…sign it quickly.

With shaking hands, tears still

Dreaming down her ruined face, lena scratches her name across the line. The pen nearly

slips twice. Silver takes the document before she can second-guess it and slides it into his jacket.

“Go ahead. I need her belongings out of the pack house in minutes.”

Elena’s mom nudges her to move.

She suddenly marches out! Regan follows her with his hand hovering at Elena’s back like he’s the one who should be comforting her. Interesting.

“A… A… Alpha.” Felix’s knees are practically vibrating. The realization that I’ve known everything…the missing money, the cover-ups-is settling into his bones. “I-”

“Don’t even. If I wanted you in jail, you’d already be there…wolf enforcement at the door and cuffs on your wrists. Leave my pack house. I don’t need you to pay it back, courtesy of being the next Alpha’s grandfather, but really, that’s where it ends. You understand?”

“Y-Yes, Alpha.”

He grabs his wife’s arm and they move fast like I might change my mind any second. I won’t. But they do

that.

“I’ll submit this to court right now.” Silver taps my shoulder like He’s congratulating me. Then he chuckles. “Once that’s done, you’re officially a divorced man. Oh, let’s not forget-we got a game this weekend.”

“Game!?” Mom yells. “Is a game important to you right now? The Black Covenant Pack doesn’t have a Luna anymore.”

“Well, you can be the Luna.” Teddy grins. “You’ve been doing Elena’s work while she was off getting Botox that didn’t make her any prettier. Might as well continue.”

Mom opens her mouth, but Teddy’s already wrapping her arms round me. I stiffen for a second…she’s not usually this affectionate towards me.

“Congratulations. Now you can have your real mate.”

The elders, who I honestly forgot were still here, look up sharply Their eyes bounce between me and Mom who’s supposedly required by ancient pack law to alert them the secon I find my true mate.

The Luna to any Alpha of the Black Covenant Pack has always been more than just a title. It’s a symbol that the pack is united, that the bloodline is strong and that the Alpha chose righ. That’s why every Luna gets her statue in the history room.

The elders had been worried about me bonding Elena. About whether I could even have a child with someone who wasn’t my true mate. Hybrid biology is tricky like that…our bodies know who we’re supposed to be with, and they don’t always cooperate when we settle for less.

However, they stopped asking when Milo was born. That little boy came out screaming, healthy, perfect so it was enough for them. I couldn’t sense his wolf being hybrid.

Hybrid blood could run deep, hides in the bones, waits for the right moment to wake up. Skips generations sometimes. Comes back stronger when you least expect it. My son will be powerful regardless of what his blood says. I’ll teach him how to be strong even when the odds say he shouldn’t be.

“Alpha Emris has found his true mate?”

Mom rolls her eyes so hard I hear it. She’s been working through bottles of wine since she found out about Demetra.

“We just found out recently. It’s been too sudden for all of us.” She forces a smile.

“Alpha, congratulations!” Jerome pushes his glasses up.

“The pack deserves to know.” Another elder nods enthusiastically “After all these years, the Alpha’s true mate has been found.”

“We should arrange introductions. A formal meeting-“.

“When can we meet her, Alpha?”

“Who is she, Alpha?”

I lick my lips. Mom’s staring at me and her face is saying please don’t, but I’m done. I’m done with making Demetra small so other people can feel comfortable. She’s been hidden long enough from the pack, the elders and from everyone who should have known she was mine.

“She’s Demetra Pride. Of the Lion Pride Pack,”

There’s silence.

The elders look at each other. Jerome’s face goes through three different expressions before settling on something complicated. The oldest elder in the bunch who’s been an elder since before my father was Alpha comes forward.

He was there when my father’s body came back. He was there when the Lion Pride Pack sent their condolences and their silence. He remembers everything. And right now, he’s looking at me like I just handed him a puzzle with missing pieces.

“She’s the daughter of Alpha Ronin. Previously a maid in this house. One that I housed.” Mom says.

“So the rumors are true?”

“She used to live in the pack house? Does that mean the mate bond was active back then? All those years ago, when she was

“The gist here is that she’s my mate.” I cut them off. “But I don’t want any of you chasing after her or bothering her about it. I’m handling that personally.”

“Alpha.” Marcus steps forward. “We just took their land which is the biggest farmland they had. This is going to cause more strive before she ever decides to accept the mate bond.”

Silver raises his eyebrow like he told me so. Teddy shakes her hed too.

“Like I said. I will take care of it. And until I give an order regarding it, none of you are to do anything.”

The elders exchange looks before walking away. Mom leaves with them.

The moment the door closes, Silver is in my face with his phone The name at the top reads “Lion Pride Pack.” Which tells me that Slade is ready to talk.
