Chapter 206 Take My Leash

I pull up to the cabin and turn off the engine, though neither of us moves. The ute ticks softly as it cools, and snowflakes fall against the
windscreen. The cabins sit quiet around us, tucked under the dark weight of the trees. In here, there is only the soft hum of the heater
fading and Emily sitting beside me. I look at her, and my chest tightens.
“Are you,” I start.
“Thank you,” she says at the same time.
I huff out a laugh and run my fingers through my hair. “You don’t have to thank me.”
“I do.”
Her voice is quiet as she turns to me, and the look on her face steals the rest of my breath.
“You are the first person to make me believe I am safe,” she says. “That I am worthy of love, and space, and time.”
The words land heavy and warm in my chest, and I try my best to breathe around them.
“Charlotte did that too,” I say, because if I let this sit untouched, I might do something embarrassing, like cry or propose with a mint I
find in the console. Emily’s eyes stay on mine, serious and soft in a way that makes every joking bone in my body go very still.
“That is embedded into her very being, Theo. Charlotte sees pain and reaches for it instinctively. She doesn’t know how not to.” Her
fingers tighten in her lap. “But you chose to see me. Even through the bond, you chose to wait, gave me time, and space, and support, and
I want you to know I’m thankful for everything.”
I swallow. It is visible. I know it is visible because her eyes drop to my throat before they come back to my face.
“Petal,” I say, my voice coming out rough. Then she slowly leans over the centre console. Like she is giving me every chance to pull away,
which is stupid because the only thing keeping me from climbing over this console is the thin thread of manners my mother raised into
My heart starts hammering so hard I can hear it in my ears. I look at her mouth. Her soft pink lips, slightly parted and waiting. My hand
curls around the steering wheel for half a second before I make myself let go. I lick my lips quickly, then lean in, and the space between
us disappears. My hand slides into her long brown hair, gentle even though I am shaking. I cradle the back of her neck and meet her the
rest of the way.
Our lips touch, and everything in me lights. Her soft, plump, bottom lip slips between mine, and she tastes like mint and cold air and Emily. The bond opens wide inside my chest, rolling through me until my fingers tighten in her hair. The kiss lasts only a few seconds before I pull back, breathing hard, trying to be respectful and trying to be good. Her eyes open then, and her brows furrow just slightly before her hands snap out and fist my jacket. She pulls me back in.

Her mouth lands on mine harder, sure and hungry and so completely Emily that the sound I make should probably embarrass me. But I
am busy trying to remember how hands work. Her tongue brushes my lip, asking and demanding at the same time, and I open for her
without a single useful thought left in my head. The kiss deepens, and her fingers twist in my jacket, holding me there, right where I want
to be.
Her mouth moves over mine, and my hand stays at the back of her neck, thumb brushing the fine hairs there. My other hand finds her
waist. I hold her lightly at first, then firmer when she leans closer, when she makes a small sound against my mouth that sends heat
straight down my spine. The console digs into my ribs, but fuck I don’t care. I need Emily like I need air. Her hand slides up my chest,
over my shoulder, then into my hair. She tugs roughly, and my brain empties out. A low, approving, hungry rumble builds in my chest and
spills out across her lips.
Emily pulls back just enough to breathe. I stare at her lips that are beautifully swollen with the evidence of where my mouth has been.
“Yelen liked that?” She whispers.
“He is writing poetry in there.” I all but pant out, making her giggle. Making my body tingle and my wolf mentally jump like a golden
retriever on a damn leash. A leash that I am more than happy she holds for us.
