Whispers of Destiny: His Belated Love novel Chapter 200

Rosemary's eyes widened in shock as she looked at the man who just casually dropped that bombshell.

Even though she hadn't witnessed the battlefield Yolanda had described, she could picture Maxwell's rage: bending over backwards to hand Victoria opportunities on a silver platter, networking tirelessly, always at her beck and call, only to have his goddess act all high and mighty, throwing tantrums and giving him the cold shoulder. Then, in the blink of an eye, she warmed the bed of some old dude who couldn't hold a candle to him, and in public no less.

Given Maxwell's temperament, the fact that he didn't make a scene right there was already cutting Victoria some slack.

"Chill out, don't do something in the heat of the moment you'll regret," Rosemary said, biting her tongue on the sarcasm for once since he had stood up for her before. "To get by in life, sometimes you gotta wear the cuckold's cap and pretend you know nothing."

Why should a lapdog care about self-respect when getting a bone from the goddess was already like winning the lottery?

It took Maxwell a few seconds to catch the drift of her words. His brows furrowed, and he said with displeasure, "I'm talking about getting back together, why bring up irrelevant people?"

There you go, his precious darling just became 'irrelevant people.'

Rosemary chuckled coldly, "No way, hit the road."

She had finally broken free from him. Was she out of her mind or had her brains turned to mush to even consider remarrying Maxwell?

He and Victoria were a match made in heaven that took ages to find. They better stick to each other and stop bothering others, especially her!

But she kept these thoughts to herself. Who knows whether Maxwell, who couldn't handle a challenge, might just drag her to the civil affairs office on a whim to spite her!

Rosemary was still mulling over the revisions Martin suggested, her consolations so half-hearted they were visibly perfunctory, not even noticing Maxwell's face was as cold as ice: "Ms. Temple has always been aloof and proud. It's normal for her to be upset if you didn't help her out with the recent scandal."

She turned into a neighborhood busybody, advocating for reconciliation instead of separation: "A little groveling won't kill you, be a man and show some magnanimity."

Maxwell replied sarcastically, "How magnanimous of you, always thinking of how to push your husband towards another woman."

"I'm doing you a favor since you're so into her..."

He cut her off impatiently, "Who told you I like her?"

"You don't like her?"

Surprised, Rosemary finally looked up at him.

Maxwell gave a nod of his aristocratic head, "No, I don't."

"Ugh," Rosemary said with disdain, "you're such a jerk."

Her words seemed to hit a nerve, and he snapped, "Rosemary, are all women as unreasonable as you? You were the one yelling and demanding a divorce, throwing 'jerk' and 'bastard' around when you thought I liked Victoria. Now I tell you I don't, and you still call me a jerk. So in your eyes, I'm just a jerk regardless of how I feel about Victoria, right?"

Communicating these complex issues with a straightforward guy like Maxwell was a lost cause. Turning a straightforward guy into a tender one was a job for his future wife, not her. Why should she pave the way for someone else's shade?

She wasn't bored enough for that.

Maxwell waited in vain for an explanation from Rosemary, only to realize she was busy texting Martin.

His sharp eyesight caught a glimpse of the message content, mostly about Traversing City, and even then, his patience was wearing thin.

The steering wheel creaked under his grip, "When are we going to remarry?"

"Not happening," Rosemary replied without looking up, not sparing an extra word.

"…I won't throw away the food you order anymore."
