Chapter 7
The man couldn’t help but walk over and loosen the ropes.
Marissa added:
“But not while he’s unconscious. That’s no fun.”
The man immediately stopped, though his eyes kept wandering lecherously over Drew’s body.
At dawn, Drew finally woke up.
His eyes were filled with despair and anguish as he croaked:
“Did you never feel anything for me all these years? Was it all a lie?”
Marissa knew the charade was over. She stopped pretending.
“Why would I?”
“Plenty of respectable heirs are dying to marry me. Why would I choose you?”
“Only an idiot like Lucia Hayes would want you.”
He endured the pain and asked:
“Then why did you say you loved me? Why did you keep coming after me?”
Marissa looked at him like he was stupid:
“If the Sullivans and Hayes joined forces against the Vaughns, we’d go bankrupt.”
“I had to keep you close. And I had to break you and Lucia up.”
“I deliberately humiliated you in front of her. I wanted to use you to destroy her.”
Hearing this, Drew’s heart shattered completely.
He let out a bitter laugh and stumbled away.
Soon, the court date arrived.
Because of the online uproar, reporters from across the city showed up.
The courthouse was packed.
Everyone came to witness me–the runaway bride–get convicted.

But then Drew took the initiative, bowing deeply to the media.
Thank you all for coming
Then he turned to the judge.
“Today, I want to present some new evidence.”
Countless photos and videos flashed by.
The subject in every single one–Drew Sullivan.
“Marissa Vaughn has repeatedly assaulted and slandered me, and even attempted to murder me.”
This–is the proof.”
In just a few sentences, backed by a mountain of evidence-
I went from a faithless runaway bride to a victim whose fiancé had been stolen by a homewrecker.
I seized the moment and signaled my assistant.
He submitted evidence of Vaughn Industries‘ smuggling and fraud on my behalf.
“Vaughn Industries used smuggled, substandard materials, falsely labeled as premium imports, causing allergic reactions in 30,000
people–and killing twenty!”
Cameras flashed wildly.
Reporters scrambled to cover the story.
Many even started livestreaming.
The revelation sparked widespread outrage.
Authorities immediately formed an investigation team.
The Vaughns tried pulling strings, sending gifts–but nothing worked.
Soon, Vaughn Industries was shut down.
Forced to recall defective products and pay triple damages.
Overnight, Vaughn Industries fell from industry leader to the brink of bankruptcy.
Marissa came crawling to me, kowtowing, slapping herself, groveling for forgiveness.
I had security throw her out.
Desperate for survival, Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn brought lavish gifts to the Sullivans.
Drew just turned them away at the door.

In the end, Vaughn Industries collapsed.
Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn, unable to bear the shame, took their own lives.
Marissa, unable to accept the downfall, went insane.
Drew was sentenced to three years for aiding and abetting intentional harm.
Under my parents‘ careful care, my legs slowly healed.
I stood again.
After surviving disaster, the future was full of hope!
