Chapter 4
My eyes flood instantly as I frantically look for my Tesla keys.
“Let me drive you.”
Jaxon reaches for my hand. “Babe, she’s gonna be okay.”
I yank away and grab my keys.
His Porsche follows me the whole way to Cedars–Sinai.
When I get there, Grandma’s already out of surgery.
Seeing her hooked up to all those machines, looking so fragile… I lose it.
Mom dumped me as a kid. Dad used me as a punching bag when he drank. Only Grandma gave a damn.
When I ran away to find Mom but got rejected, Grandma held me: “I want you here.”
When Dad came at me with beer bottles, she’d take the hit, blood running down her back.
I’ll never forget when Dad got wasted and drowned in the river. After hearing the news, Grandma went quiet, then smiled:
“Good. Now you won’t get hurt anymore.”
People called her heartless: “That was your son.”
But she said: “And she’s my granddaughter.”
Two hours later, Grandma wakes up.
Sweetheart.” That voice I’ve loved my whole life.
press her hand to my cheek.
‘Grandma.”
All my hurt comes pouring out in tears.
‘Don’t cry, baby.”
She tries to sit up and comfort me.
I gently push her back. “Just had surgery, Grandma. Gotta stay still.”
She studies my face and sighs. “It’s about Jaxon, isn’t it?”

Chapter 4
I shake my head.
“Don’t need to say it. I know.”
“Watched that whole shitshow tonight. Saw him propose to that other girl.”
“That boy’s been putting on quite the performance. Even fooled me.”
Grandma squeezes my hand.
You’re the most important thing in my world. Anyone hurts you–they’ll answer to me.”
Jaxon doesn’t deserve fame. Should be ruined and forgotten.”
My brain connects the dots. “That Twitter thread…”
I posted it.”
Grandma looks angry but guilty.
‘Last week I stopped by your place with groceries. You weren’t home, but mail came–fan letters with photos proving Jaxon was cheating way before you broke up.”
“Had them verified. They’re real.”
I sit there speechless.
Jaxon lied. Again.
You’d already broken up, and I didn’t know if I should tell you.”
Then tonight watching him propose publicly while you sat there in that dress looking lost… I got so mad I posted everything online.”
‘But I know this still hurts you.”
Talking gets Grandma worked up. She starts coughing violently–there’s blood.
I panic and run for a doctor.
As soon as I step outside, I see this figure standing by the door–no idea how long he’s been there.
Jaxon.
He’s standing there with this unreadable expression, maybe listening the whole time.
I shoot him a dirty look and focus on getting help.
Doctor says Grandma’s bleeding internally, needs a blood transfusion, but the hospital’s out of her blood type.
I’m freaking the hell out when Jaxon speaks up:
“Use mine. Same blood type as Grandma.”

give him this complicated look.
Axon shrugs like it’s nothing. “Grandma posting those photos? I get it. This is totally separate.”
fter the transfusion, we’re sitting on these uncomfortable hospital chairs.
Wanna know how I found out we have the same blood type?”
don’t answer, so he keeps going:
Grandma’s been sick for six months. I’m the one who found her during her first episode. Gave her my blood that time too. We just
idn’t wanna stress you out.”
I’ll never forget you going public with me when you were on top of the world. Without you, I’d still be serving coffee somewhere.”
So when you got sick and had to quit, I ditched those director meetings to take care of you. I treat Grandma like my own family. If he needs every drop of blood in my body to get better, I’d do it without question.”
actually laugh and cut him off:
What is this, some guilt trip to get me to post on Instagram clearing your name?”
axon stares at me–doesn’t deny it, doesn’t confirm it either.
Jaxon, you taking care of sick me back then, helping Grandma now–okay, we’re even.”
But wrong is wrong. You screwed up, you pay the price. I’m not posting shit to save your ass.”
fter that, Jaxon disappears. Don’t know if he gave up or if he’s too busy doing damage control to bother me.
Intil today when I go to visit Grandma and the nurse tells me someone already picked her up.
Your boyfriend, honey. The one who donated blood.”
She left with him willingly.”
My stomach drops and everything starts spinning.
‘m about to call Jaxon and rip him a new one when I see what’s trending on Twitter:
