Chapter 7
Something soft touches my cheek. I open my eyes.
A worn–out, sad woman is gently stroking my face with trembling fingers.
I blink in disbelief. “Mom?”
Haven’t seen her since she threw me out as a kid.
Even when Scarlett got into acting and they moved to LA, she never reached out.
Seeing her now hits me with confusion, pain, numbness, and some pathetic flicker of hope I hate myself for feeling.
“Brenna, baby, the doctor says you just need rest and some sugar. You’ll be fine.”
“What… what are you doing here?”
Mom hesitates.
I watch her struggling and suddenly everything clicks.
My expression hardens. I stare right into her eyes:
“You’re here for Scarlett.”
Mom breaks down crying. “Scarlett called me. She’s been arrested. You’re the one who called the cops.”
I know everything that happened. I know it’s all Scarlett’s fault.”
‘But she’s still young. Do you really want to destroy her life?”
Of course.
I laugh bitterly. “So?”
‘She’s young? I’m only a year older.”
You say I want to destroy her–didn’t she try destroying me first?”
I can barely control my anger:
“She KNEW Jaxon was my boyfriend but went after him anyway on that movie set.”
“She’s the one who convinced Jaxon to threaten Grandma with my assault photos. She knew Grandma meant everything to me and still pushed her into danger.”
Mom stares at me losing it, then weakly says:
“But your grandma’s okay now. Scarlett’s your sister–can’t you forgive her just this once?”

“Brenna, I know you’ve missed me all these years. I watch entertainment news, seen your movies. I’ve missed you too.”
“If you get your grandma to drop charges, I’ll make up for all these lost years.”
The pain spreads through my whole body.
‘Make up for what?” My voice is sharp. “How?”
That year I quit acting, I was dying. Called you, wanted to see you one last time. You asked how serious it was, then said you were going to Scarlett’s graduation and could I ‘wait a bit.“”
You claim to watch entertainment news, but my illness was everywhere and you had no clue.”
Mom, did you ever actually give a damn about me?”
shouldn’t waste emotions on this woman, but I can’t help feeling crushed.
We’re both your daughters–why can’t you treat us the same?”
Mom looks stunned, complicated guilt in her eyes.
Mom.”
This is the last time I’m calling you that.”
lift my chin, staring at her coldly.
Grandma won’t drop charges.”
Ms. Hayes, Scarlett screwed up and you won’t discipline her, but the law
teach your precious daughter a lesson.”
Mom stands there shocked, eyes slowly filling with tears.

Cheated on his girlfriend of ten years with her sister, then nearly killed the grandmother. Hope this scumbag rots in prison.]
Saw the press conference footage. Scarlett’s pure evil–runs away and shoves an old lady. Karma’s a bitch.]
Some delusional fans still defended them:
Stop being so anti–women! Maybe Scarlett was manipulated by Jaxon?]
Yeah! Scarlett did charity work before. She’s actually really sweet.]
People fired back: [Charity work? Wake up–that was proven fake.]

Chapter 7
Fans got desperate and came for me:
[At least better than Brenna. Got assaulted right when she started acting, even took photos.]
[Brenna already explained–she was drugged and forced. Her friend showed up before anything actually happened.]
[Who believes that? Look how seductive she looks in those pictures.]
[Enough! Brenna’s a private citizen now. Stop attacking her.]
The trolling got so bad, extreme fans started spreading my assault photos online, claiming I willingly slept my way to the top.
Even said my award–winning movie came from sleeping with the director.
And reporters actually broke into Grandma’s hospital room!
