Serena scoffed loudly. "Sloane, stop acting. Are you seriously going to sit there and claim Dad hasn't been slipping you money all these years? You dare say you haven't taken advantage of the Sutton family's wealth?"
"Advantage?" Sloane let out a cold laugh. "You're barking up the wrong tree. Even if I told you the truth, you wouldn't believe it. Even if I laid out my entire life's savings to prove it, you'd still accuse me of hiding millions."
"..." Serena's face turned red.
She spun toward Silas. "Dad, look at her! She takes our money and then acts like a victim!"
Silas didn't bother defending Sloane. Instead, he waved a dismissive hand at Serena. "Drop it. There's no point talking to her."
Sloane's presence had effectively suffocated the entire room.
Finally, Grandma Eleanor slammed her glass down. "Enough, all of you! Today is your grandfather's birthday banquet. Can we not just sit down and act like a family for one meal?"
That finally put an end to the direct attacks on Sloane.
The guests began standing up to offer toasts to Alfred.
Sloane and Logan walked up and politely offered their glasses as well.
But the moment the toasting round ended, Silas opened his mouth again.
This time, he targeted Logan. "By the way, I didn't catch your name earlier."
They were halfway through the dinner, and not a single person—including Alfred—had bothered to ask Logan his name.
Logan replied politely, "My last name is Lennox, first name Logan."
"And you fix cars?"
"Yes, at Panda Auto Works."
"What's the pay like?" Silas asked casually, taking a sip of his drink.
"About a thousand dollars a week."
"Just a thousand?"
