"Whatever you want to think, I didn't do anything," Sloane stated flatly.
Evelyn's eyes grew red-rimmed, and she stared at Sloane with profound disappointment.
"Sloane, you are just as selfish as your father. You clearly instigated this whole mess, yet you pretend like nothing happened, acting as if everyone else is always to blame."
Every word felt like a knife twisting in Sloane's chest.
She took a deep breath. "You're right. I'm as selfish as my dad, and I'm certainly not as noble as you. So do us both a favor—stay far away from me so I don't offend your eyes. Focus on living your perfect life with your new Valerius family. That's all that matters, right?"
"Sloane, you..." Evelyn clutched her chest, visibly trembling with anger.
At that moment, Miles walked into the room.
Seeing the tension, he hurried over to intervene. "Please, don't fight. Sloane didn't do anything wrong, and neither did I. The only one at fault is Tristan."
Sloane shot Miles a venomous glare. "Mind your own business!"
"I..."
Before Miles could finish, Sloane turned on her heel and stormed out of the suite.
Miles started to go after her, but Evelyn called him back. "Miles, let her go. She's been stubborn like this since she was a little girl. You won't be able to talk any sense into her."
"Besides, I wanted to set you two up before, but looking at this now, there's no point. Your personalities clash too much."
Miles turned back to Evelyn. "Evelyn, please calm down. This really wasn't Sloane's fault. You're her mother—the things you just said to her were incredibly hurtful."
With that, Miles spun around and jogged into the hallway to catch up with Sloane.
But she was already long gone.

Sloane went straight home.
She remembered seeing two bottles of red wine Logan had stashed in the liquor cabinet.
Logan drank occasionally, but she had never touched them.
Suffocated by frustration, she pulled out an opened bottle and poured herself half a glass.
It wasn't bad—a little dry, but the taste was tolerable.
When the first half-glass didn't give her the buzz she wanted, she poured another.
Soon, a warm flush spread through her body, and her mind began to blur pleasantly.
