But Shane had no intention of letting her off the hook. He immediately pointed at the plump cafeteria worker. "Don't act innocent now! Yesterday evening at the market, you told me yourself that Arthur's daughter-in-law said her father-in-law's skull was cut open by the doctor. If you deny it, I'll find everyone who was there and make them confront you one by one!"
"You... this..."
Brenda never expected Walter and his group to actually track her down.
Usually, when she spread rumors, no one ever took it this seriously.
By now, a crowd of onlookers had started to gather in the cafeteria.
The group consisted of a fiercely intimidating director, two beautiful young female doctors, and a local thug.
Standing together, how could they not draw attention?
Brenda just wanted the ordeal to end quickly. "Fine, I admit I said it. What do you want? I said it, so I'll apologize. Will that do?"
The cafeteria manager immediately scolded her. "I was wondering why this rumor was spreading so wildly these past few days. It came from your mouth! Your morals are completely bankrupt!"
"Yes, I have moral issues. I am morally bankrupt. I apologize to you all. Please just let me go. I have to get back to serving food. We're short-staffed, and they can't manage without me."
Brenda tried to slip away, but Walter blocked her path.
"Didn't I apologize? What more do you want?"
Walter pointed at a table at the front of the cafeteria, his tone deathly calm. "Get up there and apologize to our hospital's doctor in front of everyone!"
"What?"
To Brenda, it sounded like an absurd joke.
She had never heard of such a humiliating way to apologize!
Sloane and Zoe exchanged a glance.
Director Lucas was truly ruthless.
Walter repeated himself. "Get up there and apologize, or no one leaves today!"
Brenda was on the verge of tears.
