Deep inside the aircraft carrier's communications hub, Miles noticed the update flashing across his screen confirming Logan's return to active duty. He stared at it for a moment, then scoffed. He thought Logan was supposed to be playing nursemaid. He gave up that fast?

"Hey, didn't you supposedly rush back to play doting husband? Why are you back already?"

Aboard the roaring transport plane, Leo West yelled over the engine noise at Logan.

Logan kept his eyes fixed straight ahead. "None of your damn business."

Flynn chimed in from the side, "Come on, Leo, the boss knows duty comes first! Romance takes a backseat to national security, right?"

Leo let out a cynical laugh. "Oh, is that so? Because the second he heard his wife got hurt yesterday, he practically shoved us out of the way to jump on a boat!"

"That was a high-risk situation!" Flynn argued playfully. "We were just running a drill, but his wife was legitimately injured!"

Leo smirked. "Keep making excuses for him."

Sick of his subordinates' relentless teasing, Logan barked, "Both of you, shut the hell up!"

The squad was currently en route to another remote island to execute a simulated ground assault and hostage rescue operation.

The flight alone was going to take thirty agonizing minutes.

Bored out of his mind, Dash decided to fan the flames. "Look, we're all a bunch of single meatheads here. None of us have managed to secure a wife and hit the military's 'birth quota' this year. Our only hope is the boss because he's actually married! You need to lock that down, Boss, or the rest of us are going to get dragged into the blind-date lottery."

Logan gritted his teeth. He knew they were plotting exactly this!

No wonder the second they heard his wife was hurt, every single man in the unit had shoved him out the door.

"You think women just fall into line whenever you bark an order?" Logan snapped. "She didn't want my help. What was I supposed to do, tie her down?"

Leo groaned in sheer exasperation. "That doesn't mean you just abandon her and run away!"
