Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 65

Thanks to the massive success of Liam Lucas's surgery, Metro General Hospital received several prestigious medical awards.

To celebrate, the hospital hosted a grand banquet at Azure Springs Resort.

Director Arthur York delivered a glowing speech and handed out awards to the surgical team, after which the staff was free to mingle.

Sloane sat by the resort's sprawling pool with her department colleagues, quietly sipping her drink.

Even though she was the true hero of the operation, she remained characteristically low-profile. She barely spoke, content to just watch her coworkers celebrate.

Meredith Chase had surprised everyone by bringing her new boyfriend, Xavier Lane. He was ten years younger than Meredith, worked as an influencer, and had an infectious energy. He was currently leading the doctors in a lively game of cards.

Someone teased Meredith, "Dr. Chase, weren't you just stressing about being single? How did you suddenly land such a young, handsome guy? What's your secret?"

Meredith laughed. "Hey, as long as you put yourself out there, you'll find someone."

Dr. Lawrence Lowe leaned close to Sloane and whispered, "Dr. Chase dropped a fortune on his livestreams. She was his top contributor."

Sloane was a little taken aback.

"Are they... actually happy together?"

"She said it's not even about romance," Dr. Lowe explained. "She just wants a baby right now. Xavier is healthy and comes from a decent family. If she gets pregnant, he won't have to pay the single tax anymore."

Sloane was speechless.

Dr. Lowe had also brought his partner.

The woman he affectionately called his 'Fiona'.

Fiona was far from a delicate flower. She was a robust, heavily built woman with a boisterous personality. Whenever Dr. Lowe lost a round of cards, she would gleefully down his penalty drink for him.

Dr. Lowe doted on her completely. Worried that his sturdy fiancée hadn't had enough at the banquet, he ordered her a massive spread of desserts and drinks.

Seeing everyone so happily coupled up sent a sharp pang through Sloane. Logan had been missing for over ten days.

In all that time, he hadn't sent a single text.

Just as she lost herself in thought, a woman's terrified scream shattered the air. "Help! Someone's jumping!"

A massive splash echoed across the courtyard a second later.

Someone had actually leaped from the third-floor balcony straight into the pool.
