Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 77

Lydia lived in an upscale suburban estate.

Sloane had visited a few times when she was younger, but since Madeline couldn't stand her, she rarely went out of her way to visit—unless she knew her aunt and uncle weren't home.

When Sloane's cab pulled into the driveway, Lydia was leaning on her crutches, seeing off a loud group of friends at the door. They were hugging and dragging out their goodbyes.

Catching sight of Sloane, Lydia offered an apologetic grin. "Hey, Sloane! You made it."

Sloane walked over, supporting her arm. "I thought you said you were dying of boredom?"

"Just had a few people drop by to check on me."

Right on cue, Lydia's phone buzzed. She answered it, lowering her voice. "I'm a little tied up right now. My cousin is here. Come by in a few hours."

Hanging up, she flashed Sloane another sheepish smile.

"Crazy timing today. Everyone decided to visit at the exact same time."

Sloane raised an eyebrow. "Wow, look at you managing your social calendar. Are you sure you can fit me in?"

"I'm universally loved, what can I say?"

"Alright, so give me a timeframe. How many hours am I penciled in for?"

"Stop it! You're my favorite cousin, you can stay as long as you want!"

Once they settled into the massive living room, Lydia had the housekeeper prepare a platter of fresh fruit for them.

"So, where's the mysterious husband?" Lydia asked. "Why didn't he come with you?"

"Oh, him? He's off on a mission."

"A mission? What kind of mission?"

Sloane thought about it for a second. "I don't actually know the details. He told me he has a second career. He's not just a mechanic."

Lydia's eyes lit up with absolute thrill. "Ooh, a double life! What's the secret job?"
