When she finally stopped coughing, Landon said, "My regret is that I can't take you up there with me."
Sloane blinked in surprise.
These days, anyone with enough money could hitch a ride to space with the astronauts.
Sloane said, "I don't have that kind of money. Besides, I have work."
The light in Landon's eyes completely died out.
After lunch, Sloane headed back to the hospital.
Landon watched her from the entrance.
Just as she reached the doors, he abruptly called out to her.
"Sloane!"
She turned around.
In that split second, Landon wanted to abandon all logic, sprint over, and pour his heart out to her.
But a large van drove right between them.
By the time Sloane looked back, all she saw was the passing vehicle.
Assuming the voice calling her name was just her imagination, she turned back and walked inside.
Once the van cleared, Landon was left staring at her retreating silhouette.

Early Saturday morning, staff from the Global Fertility Association called to remind them about the departure.
They were set to leave at 9:00 AM.
Sloane and Logan walked out of their apartment together.
While waiting for the elevator, they ran into Macy and Dan.
Remembering the skimpy outfits, Sloane couldn't help but cringe internally.
To make matters worse, Macy leaned in and whispered, "Sloane, did you wear those clothes yet? They're one-size-fits-all, so they should fit perfectly, right?"
"..." Sloane shook her head. "I didn't wear them."
"Why not? Does your man not like that kind of stuff?"
Sloane's ears burned scarlet. "We aren't at that stage yet."
"You wear them, and you instantly get to that stage!"
"That's not what I meant."
"Ugh, I don't know what you two are overthinking. You're adults, stop being so prudish."
The topic was far too sensitive, so Dan stayed out of it.
