"You mean..."
Jonathan chuckled, a hint of disbelief in his voice. "I never thought Zebulon would go this far for Naomi."
"I'm telling you, man, Zebulon has finally fallen for real this time."
Carter didn't respond.
He thought about Naomi's post on the forum and felt a sense of absurdity.
"Are people really this messed up? When Naomi was chasing him, Zebulon couldn't have been more disdainful. And now..."
Jonathan didn't say anything else, just laughed. "Looks like Naomi's 'playing hard to get' tactic is working after all!"
Carter, however, felt that Naomi clearly wasn't playing hard to get.
"Whatever, let's just focus on preparing for Zebulon's birthday party."
Though they both had a nagging feeling that the party wouldn't go smoothly, they chose to ignore their sixth sense.
While preparing for his birthday, Zebulon contacted Naomi several times.
Overwhelmed by his messages, she started ignoring them, only replying with a few words when she remembered.
She thought a proud person like Zebulon would get fed up, either ignoring her back or blowing up in anger.
But this time, Zebulon was exceptionally patient.
[Have you been that busy? Will you have time for the party?]
Naomi found the message baffling.
[When is it?]
There was a long pause from Zebulon's end, then a flood of messages.
[Are you kidding me, Naomi? What's your problem? I've been planning this for so long, and not only have you not helped once, but now you're acting like you don't even care?]
[Naomi, I've already shown you enough patience. I don't like women who play games. If you keep this up, you'll regret it.]
The constant vibrations from her phone felt like an extension of Zebulon's frustration and agitation.
Not paying much attention to the caller ID, she answered.
"Naomi, what are you doing? Why aren't you answering my messages?"
It was only when she heard Zebulon's voice that she realized who it was.
Her expression grew complicated as she asked softly, "Is there something you need?"
Zebulon, on the other end of the line, was losing his mind.
"Do I need a reason to call you? What's wrong with you, Naomi? You're so different from before. Why... are you still angry?"
"I already apologized to you. Do you have to hold on to it like this?"
Naomi wondered if all men were like this—making mistakes and then finding ways to shift the blame onto the woman.
In the past, she would have never argued. Now, she just felt tired of it.
"I believe I've told you many times that I'm not angry. Is there anything else?"
