Lennon put the disc away, glanced at the time, and asked softly, "Want to watch another one?"
Naomi shook her head.
The last film had left a heavy impression, and Naomi needed some time to process it.
Lennon nodded. Instead of playing another movie, he put on some music.
The soothing music quickly eased Naomi's troubled thoughts, and she began to feel calm.
As she reached for some fruit, Naomi spotted the item she had tucked into her bag. After a moment's hesitation, she took it out.
"This is for you."
Lennon paused, his eyes falling on the elegantly wrapped small box.
"What's this?"
"A birthday present."
Lennon's gaze fixed on the gift, and for a moment, he seemed unsure how to react.
Naomi couldn't read his expression and began to wonder if giving him a gift alone was too forward. She started to pull her hand back, but Lennon caught her by the wrist.
"Thank you."
Lennon's grip was light, just enough to stop her from retracting her hand. He took the gift and immediately let go.
Though the touch was brief, Naomi could still feel the warmth of his fingers on her skin.
She rubbed her wrist self-consciously. When Lennon asked if he could open it, she nodded without thinking.
Lennon's breath was shallow as he slowly opened the box. Inside lay a pair of elegant and sophisticated cufflinks.
They were a turquoise green, with a unique design that resembled stars peeking out from the darkness, sparkling with a subtle charm.
"These are very distinctive. What brand are they?"
Naomi felt a little shy.
Since it was his birthday, Lennon didn't bother arguing with them. A servant wheeled in the cake, and everyone quickly stuck candles in it. A few people started hyping up the mood, "Time to blow out the candles! Come on, let's sing Happy Birthday to the boss!"
Lennon was about to refuse, but he saw that Naomi had already started singing along, so he simply listened as they finished the song.
Finally, at everyone's urging, he blew out the candles.
"Whooo!"
The cheers nearly blew the roof off.
A hint of a smile appeared in Lennon's eyes as he watched the boisterous group. He cut a slice of cake and handed it to Naomi.
Naomi took it and smiled at Lennon. "Thank you, Lennon."
"No, I should be thanking you."
Naomi took a bite of her cake, her ears filled with the sounds of shouts and laughter. She didn't catch what Lennon had said and asked curiously, "What was that?"
