Who’s the Dog Now? novel Chapter 135

Everyone worried Zebulon would lose it, so they tiptoed around him for the rest of the evening. It was, after all, the birthday party of the young master of the Hughes family. There were plenty of entertainers and organized activities on the yacht, so the beginning of the party had at least appeared festive and harmonious.

But then some idiot had to bring up Naomi.

"Speaking of which, how come we haven't seen Naomi today? Isn't she usually the most attentive on his birthday? I remember last year, she practically barked like a dog just to please him. We even made bets on what new level of shamelessness she'd reach this year."

"Hahaha, that's harsh. She just has a crush on Mr. Hughes. What's so wrong with that?"

"It's not like Mr. Hughes is short on admirers. I've just never seen someone so shameless. She's thrown all dignity out the window trying to get his attention."

As the group chattered on, they failed to notice that the subject of their gossip, Zebulon, had a face growing darker by the second.

Carter was about to step in and smooth things over, but the conversation only grew more vicious.

Zebulon exploded on the spot and nearly beat the rich kid who'd started it to death.

Everyone was terrified, and the birthday party came to an abrupt, screeching halt.

No one could leave the yacht. The route was fixed, and they had to wait for it to return to shore to disembark.

Although Carter had immediately requested they turn back, they were already too far out. The earliest they could dock was the next morning.

So, the Hughes family's staff had to arrange for everyone to entertain themselves. Luckily, the yacht was fully equipped, so no one would be bored.

Knowing Zebulon was in a foul mood, everyone gave him a wide berth. Now, only Carter and a few others were left keeping him company.

After his outburst, Zebulon had stormed into the bar and started downing drinks. No one could stop him, so they eventually just let him be.

Jonathan had initially thought Zebulon's behavior was just a spoiled rich kid's tantrum over being publicly slighted, especially by someone he looked down on like Naomi. But after what Herbert said, he was no longer so sure.

"If you ask me, Zebulon really went too far," Herbert said softly.

"What he said that day was completely humiliating. It's one thing for us to joke about Naomi when we're hanging out, but she has a thing for him, and he allowed it to happen. That's on him, not anyone else."

Jonathan was baffled and resistant to Herbert's suggestion. "You mean, have Zebulon admit he's wrong?"

"If he doesn't, are you going to be the one to calm him down the next time this happens?" Herbert asked.

Jonathan shook his head vigorously, like a rattle.

"There you go, then. Go tell Carter what I just said. He'll know how to get through to Zebulon."

Jonathan went off, albeit reluctantly.

As expected, Carter went to talk to Zebulon.

Zebulon was already half-drunk out of his mind, but after hearing Carter's words, a hint of hope crept into his voice. "Will that really work?"

"Of course!"
