“If you like Naomi so much, then you should pursue her.”
Tiffany knew Naomi's personality and understood this suggestion was risky, but she had to take the gamble. If Zebulon and Naomi actually reconciled, it would be the end for her.
Better to bet it all now than to die a slow death.
Worst case, she still had an ace up her sleeve as a safety net.
“Pursue her?”
Zebulon scoffed. “Impossible.”
Naomi had always been the one chasing him. Why would he ever chase her?
Besides, if he started pursuing her, everyone would know he was interested in her too.
He'd always told everyone he didn't like Naomi and was only nice to her because of their families' relationship.
How could he go back on his own word?
Tiffany finally felt a small sense of relief.
Zebulon's strong resistance to the idea meant she still had a chance.
Tiffany smiled, snuggling tenderly against Zebulon. “But Zebulon, it’s not fair to Naomi to treat her this way.”
“All Naomi did was like you. She hasn't done anything wrong, so why do you have to be like this with her?”
Just as she expected, Zebulon hesitated.
Tiffany pressed on. “Maybe you don't have to see it as 'pursuing' her. Just be a little nicer to her. That way, at least people won't think you're being too harsh. You've seen it yourself, right? A lot of people at school think you're in the wrong. They don't know she's the one who's always been chasing you; they just see that she likes you and you ignore her, which is why she gets so much criticism.”
“But if you start being nice to her now, won’t everyone see that Naomi is the one with the problem in your relationship?”
Tiffany’s words made Zebulon fall into deep thought.
It was indeed a very practical point.
In Zebulon’s mind, what Tiffany wanted was simple, and it was something he possessed effortlessly.
He could keep her by his side without any real effort, so he spoke without reservation.
Tiffany could feel his condescension, and it felt like poison spreading in her heart.
“Okay.”
“You know me. What I want has always been simple.”
“As long as I can be with you, I’ll do anything.”
“Zebulon, don’t leave me…”
Zebulon chuckled, enjoying the feeling of a woman treating him as her entire world.
“As long as you’re obedient, I promise you’ll always be the most important person by my side…”
