Patricia looked at her with a curious expression. “Were you secretly on a date with Mr. Spencer in the bathroom? Why do you look so radiant?”
She looked distinctly different from before.
It was as if she had broken free from some invisible shackles, making her impossible to look away from.
“No, I just figured some things out.”
Naomi smiled at Patricia. “Hurry up and take your shower, or the lights will be out soon.”
Patricia said, “Oh,” and after giving Naomi a long, deep look, she went into the bathroom.
Just as she was closing the door, Patricia poked her head out and said with a grin, “Naomi, you look great like this. I hope you can always be this happy! Life's too short to make yourself miserable. Just do what makes you happy!”
“Of course, it would be even better if you started dating Mr. Spencer for my sake, so I have a ship to cheer for!”
With that, Patricia quickly pulled her head back and shut the bathroom door with a click.
Naomi stood frozen for a moment, then burst out laughing when she understood what Patricia meant.
Even though she knew Patricia couldn't hear her, Naomi whispered, “Thank you, Patricia.”
Thank you both for being with me.
She would never again waste her energy agonizing over things that weren't worth it.
Naomi climbed into bed and saw a message from Mrs. Gonzalez that had arrived a little while ago. She glanced at it and calmly replied: [I understand.]
Then she turned off her phone and settled in to sleep.
She thought she wouldn't be able to sleep after napping for so long in Lennon's car, but listening to the gentle sound of Patricia showering, she quickly drifted into a deep slumber.
When Patricia came out, she saw that Naomi was already asleep. Her expression softened with sympathy.
Naomi had been shuttling between school and the studio, and Patricia knew better than anyone how tired she was.
“Sleep well. Tomorrow is a new day!”
Patricia whispered with a smile before climbing into her own bed.
The next morning, Naomi woke up to the smell of food. She sat up in bed to see Patricia holding a bag of breakfast and grinning at her. “Good morning! Time to eat!”
“That Tiffany is really something. Doesn't Zebulon hate going to those remote places? But she managed to convince him to go with her.”
“But hey, their trip is good news for us.”
“With Zebulon gone, school will be much more pleasant.”
Patricia couldn't stand the sight of Zebulon.
Naomi felt much the same way now.
The mark on her wrist had faded, but the faint ache was a constant reminder that he was not a man to be trusted.
He had a real talent for striking her down just when she was on the verge of giving in to him.
“In that case, do you want to come to the studio with me this afternoon?”
At the thought of seeing Mr. Spencer, Patricia nodded eagerly. “Yes, yes, yes!”
A chance to see a handsome man for free? She wouldn't miss it for the world!
