Who’s the Dog Now? novel Chapter 188

"I understand."

"But Dad, Mom, I need you to promise me one thing."

"Name it."

Naomi said, "There are principles that can't be broken. The last time, I tried to get along with him for your sakes, and the result was him acting recklessly and getting us into a car accident."

"This is the one and only last chance."

"If he does something that crosses my line, for any reason whatsoever, I will not accept him again."

Mr. and Mrs. Gonzalez looked at each other and nodded in unison. "Alright!"

"Don't worry, Mr. and Mrs. Hughes will have a serious talk with him too. It absolutely won't happen again."

Naomi pressed her lips together and nodded, saying no more.

Just then, the maid brought her food. As Naomi sat down to eat, her parents went upstairs to their room.

Naomi knew they were going to call the Hughes, but she felt perfectly calm.

She had taken Lennon's words to heart.

Right now, she had no way to defy her parents' wishes or fight against these powerful families.

The only thing she could do was wait.

A leopard can't change its spots. A person like Zebulon would never understand what it means to cherish someone; otherwise, he wouldn't have done such cruel things in the first place.

The final outcome was far from certain.

He clearly had no idea what he had done wrong. He looked at Naomi with irritation. "What was all that you said? Are you really planning to cut ties with me?"

Naomi nodded honestly. "That was the plan, yes."

Zebulon's brow furrowed, unable to accept this. "And now?"

Naomi fixed her eyes on him, her gaze unnervingly direct. "My parents won't allow it."

Zebulon swore under his breath.

"Naomi, what do you take me for?"

"You were the one who said you were going to chase me, and now you're the one who wants to give up. You're still hung up on what I said at the Christmas' party? I've always talked like that! Why are you making a fuss now and not before?"

Naomi finally said the words that had been sitting in her heart. "Zebulon, this wasn't sudden. I've been let down, piece by piece, for a long time. You didn't see the chances I gave you, but each one was a thread holding us together. Now the bridge is burned."
