Who’s the Dog Now? novel Chapter 211

A shiver ran down Naomi's spine.

Lennon had only said a single word, yet it felt like a thousand tiny ants were crawling in her ears.

"I..."

She was about to say she was fine standing, but Lennon's gaze had already lifted to meet hers.

His eyes seemed devoid of emotion, yet they also felt like they held everything back. Naomi's heart skipped a beat, and without a second thought, she dropped into the chair.

Lennon heard the thud and raised an eyebrow.

Was he that frightening?

They knew each other so well by now, so why did Naomi still seem so reserved around him?

Lennon's brow slowly furrowed.

Naomi had no idea what he was thinking. She only saw that he didn't look pleased and assumed he was angry. Her eyes darted around, searching for a topic to divert his attention.

"Henry was just telling me..." Naomi described the bug they had found, and seeing that Lennon seemed to be listening, she tilted her head. "Is it actually a bug, or an easter egg?"

Lennon stared at her. She had no idea how adorable that head tilt was, as cute and elegant as a kitten.

His throat tightened. He instinctively dropped his gaze to break contact, only to look back up at her a second later.

"An easter egg."

His voice was deep and raspy, as if something were caught in his throat.

Naomi thought he might have a sore throat and quickly offered him the coffee in her hand. "You should try this. This place is really good. I had it once and loved it."

Lennon reached out and took it.

The cup was still warm from her touch, a gentle heat that chased away the chill of the iced drink.

"Is it good?"

She didn't dare admit that while watching Lennon drink the coffee, watching his lips move, she'd had an inappropriate thought.

All those years she’d adored Zebulon, she’d only ever dreamed of being with him, never thinking about anything more intimate.

But just now, she'd had a thought about Lennon that she shouldn't have.

She'd actually thought his lips looked very kissable.

Naomi felt like she had committed a mortal sin.

Lennon had been so good to her. How could she defile him with such thoughts?

A man like Lennon, so reserved and out of reach, probably had no concept of love, nor would he ever want it, right?

She wasn't sure if her feelings were shifting, but she knew one thing: she couldn't bring trouble to anyone else.

Zebulon had always seen her affection as a burden. That’s it. No more chasing from her side, ever again.
