"He was nice to you before, but never this flirtatious. Tonight, his every move seemed calculated to win you over. It looks like he's changed his strategy. When he realized you wouldn't be a direct ATM for them, he probably decided to try a more roundabout approach."

"If you become his girlfriend, asking for money later on would be so much easier, wouldn't it?"

Goosebumps erupted all over Patricia's skin.

"Is there more to him than he lets on?"

Naomi considered for a moment, then offered a second possibility. "Or maybe he genuinely has feelings for you and wants to be with you."

"But Patricia, either way, I think we need to be on guard. If you really like him, it's okay to talk and get to know him normally, but I'd suggest you avoid going to places like bars with him again."

Patricia nodded vigorously.

"You're the best, Naomi."

She reached out and gave Naomi a virtual hug before snuggling back under her covers. Suddenly, a thought struck her. "How do you know so much about it? You're not exactly experienced, are you?"

Patricia completely discounted Naomi's past pursuit of Zebulon as a useless experience—one she would erase from history if she could.

Aside from that, Naomi had very little experience with men.

Yet her analysis just now had been brilliant, so logical and insightful she sounded like a relationship expert.

Patricia's eyes sparkled as she looked at Naomi. "Are you some kind of natural-born love guru?"

"Did you just magically figure all this out after you broke things off with Zebulon?"

Naomi was speechless.

"It's not that amazing."

"The most capable person I've ever met."

"Wow." Patricia was surprised to hear Naomi give Lennon such high praise.

"Okay, I'll be careful then."

Better safe than sorry. She could handle getting screwed over in any way, except when it came to love.

That would destroy her faith in it.

"Alright, bestie night-talk is over! Time for bed!"

Naomi had been about to ask Patricia to help her analyze Lennon's strange behavior on the phone, but Patricia dropped that bombshell and was asleep moments later. Frustrated, Naomi lay back down.

Patricia had found her peace of mind, leaving Naomi to stew in her own confusion.
