Who’s the Dog Now? novel Chapter 29

Naomi nodded.

The campus was already buzzing with gossip about the love triangle between her, Zebulon, and Tiffany. She had no desire to become the main attraction in the dining hall.

“Perfect. I need to pick something up anyway.”

Having been pampered since childhood, Naomi used many custom-made products that weren't available in stores. Her moisturizer and toner were almost out, and her mother had already asked her personal shopper to rush the order. It should be ready for pickup now.

“Great! To celebrate you finally ditching that scumbag, lunch is on me today!”

Naomi couldn’t understand why Patricia was so happy about her giving up on Zebulon that she wanted to celebrate with a meal, but not wanting to spoil her mood, she just nodded. “Okay.”

The two linked arms and walked to the campus gate. And as fate would have it, they ran right into Zebulon, Tiffany, and their group heading out.

Tiffany spotted Naomi first. She tugged on Zebulon’s arm. “Zebulon, look, it’s Naomi! I told you she’d come. She’s always with you guys, why would she suddenly stop now?”

Zebulon saw her too. He’d felt a pang of guilt for leaving her behind that morning, but the memory of her walking away without a glance quickly reignited his anger.

He stood by his car, a proud look on his face, waiting for Naomi to come and grovel.

He had already decided he wasn't going to let her off the hook easily.

“Naomi, over here! Everyone’s waiting for you!”

After making such a vicious request in the private room last time, Tiffany was now acting as if nothing had happened. Naomi had to admit, she was almost impressed.

She hadn't wanted to engage, but Tiffany had called her out in public. Not wanting to be rude, Naomi sighed and walked over with Patricia.

“You guys go ahead. I won’t be joining you anymore.”

With that, Naomi turned to leave with Patricia.

As she spoke, Tiffany managed a smile that was both “stubborn and fragile.” She tugged on Zebulon’s hand, a gesture that was part plea, part declaration of ownership. “Zebulon, listen to me. Don’t be angry with Naomi. You’ve known each other for years.”

Patricia exploded. “Hey, what business is it of yours? You’ve got some nerve. You knew about Zebulon and Naomi, yet you clung to him. Now that she’s letting go, you’re suddenly playing peacemaker? Who do you think you are? You think Naomi is just some pawn in your game? If you don’t have a mirror, take a good look at your reflection in a puddle and see yourself for what you are.”

Tiffany, shocked by Patricia’s vulgarity, turned pale.

She buried her face in Zebulon's chest, sobbing heartbrokenly. “I’m sorry... I’m so sorry... I was just trying to help...”

Before Patricia could say another word, Zebulon roared, “That’s enough! Patricia, this has nothing to do with you! Stop throwing your weight around in front of me!”

Patricia was fuming, but Naomi grabbed her and pulled her back.

“It’s okay, Patricia. I’m hungry. Can we just go eat?”
