“No way. That fast?” Naomi said, finding it hard to believe.
Patricia leaned in closer. “Well, why don’t you open it and see? Hurry, hurry, let’s find out!”
Naomi’s heart pounded with excitement as she quickly opened her email. Sure enough, an interview invitation was sitting quietly in her inbox.
“Ahhh! You got an interview offer already?” Patricia threw her arms around Naomi’s shoulders, and they hugged tightly. “That’s amazing, Naomi! I told you! A girl as talented as you is in high demand, even as a sophomore!”
Naomi blushed at the praise. “I’m not as good as you make it sound.”
“Hey, don’t sell yourself short! Quick, let’s see which company it’s from!”
Together, they had blasted their resumes out to a dozen companies, and all she’d seen was the subject line: [Interview Invitation]. She hadn’t even noticed the sender.
The two of them huddled over the screen, their eyebrows raising in unison as they read the email.
“Spenzalez Studios?”
“What kind of company name is that? It’s so weird.”
Patricia immediately started scrolling through her own inbox. “Did we even apply to this company?”
But Naomi froze when she saw the name.
“It’s… a new game development company.”
“Huh?” Patricia was surprised. “But we’re finance majors. Were you planning to work in their accounting department? They wouldn’t hire a sophomore for that, would they?”
Naomi shook her head. “When I sent my resume, I applied for the illustrator position.”
“You got it!”
After replying to the email, Naomi and Patricia started planning what she should wear to the interview.
The hours flew by, and by the time they had everything ready, it was already late. They linked arms and headed to the commercial strip behind the campus.
The strip near Tyra University was famous for its vibrant atmosphere, offering everything a student could want or need.
When they arrived at the barbecue joint, it was packed. They decided to walk around for a bit and come back when the crowd thinned out. But as they turned to leave, they ran straight into the last people they wanted to see.
Tiffany was draped over Zebulon like a cheap coat. When she saw his eyes lock onto Naomi, she felt a sharp pang of annoyance.
She deliberately raised her voice. “See, Zebulon? I told you Naomi was perfectly fine.”
