What did that question mark mean?
[Lennon: Are you busy? I can see you on your phone.]
Naomi gasped and quickly looked around. Sure enough, she spotted Lennon standing by the floor-to-ceiling windows.
He was wearing a baseball cap and an all-weather jacket with matching pants, looking at least four or five years younger than usual.
He blended in perfectly with the university students.
Naomi’s eyes widened, and she subconsciously typed back: [What are you doing here?]
Lennon was looking down, typing on his phone.
A moment later, she received his reply: [I had some business to take care of nearby. I got the sketches you sent. There are a few things I’d like to discuss. Are you free tonight?]
So that was it. He wanted to talk about her drawings.
A flicker of disappointment surfaced, but she quickly suppressed it.
[I’m free. I can come out now.]
After sending the message, Naomi closed her laptop, explained the situation to Patricia, and prepared to leave the library.
Patricia got up to walk with her.
“Your boss is pretty nice to his employees, huh? Coming to pick you up personally.”
Naomi’s heart skipped a beat, and she felt a strange shyness. “He was just in the area.”
There was no way he came specifically to pick her up. She and Lennon weren't that close.
“Really?”
Patricia walked with Naomi over to Lennon. He noticed her and gave a slight nod in greeting.
Patricia grinned and asked boldly, “Hey, is your company hiring security guards? I want to come for the free food!”
Naomi’s eyes went wide. She couldn’t believe Patricia had just asked that so directly.
Patricia jumped, nearly dropping her phone.
She turned to see Zebulon’s unpleasant face and instinctively stepped away.
“What’s your problem, sneaking up on people like that? Can you please stay away from me and Naomi from now on?”
Zebulon ignored her disdain, his eyes fixed on the question. “Who was that guy!”
Patricia was about to snap back, but then she noticed he looked almost… jealous. A mocking, playful smile touched her lips. “What, are you jealous seeing our Naomi with another handsome man?”
Zebulon sneered. “Me? Jealous? I’m just warning Naomi not to get involved with shady characters. Her parents would never approve.”
Patricia was furious. This guy was unbelievable. “That’s none of your business,” she scoffed. “You’re allowed to parade Tiffany around, but Naomi isn’t allowed to move on to better things?”
“There are so many handsome men out there, Naomi could date a new one every day and still not run out. Besides—”
Patricia looked at Zebulon with contempt. “You’re the one who refused to make things official, right? What right do you have to be jealous now?”
