Who’s the Dog Now? novel Chapter 79

“Naomi!”

The dark figure had given Naomi a scare. She was about to turn and run when she heard a familiar voice. Frowning, she stopped and looked toward the shadow.

Sure enough, she saw Zebulon striding toward her.

The streetlights were off, but the sound-activated light at the dorm entrance was still on from his shout.

“What are you doing here?”

Zebulon was now standing in front of Naomi and silently reached for her hand.

Naomi dodged his touch.

“If you have something to say, just say it.”

Zebulon hadn't expected her to resist his touch, and his expression soured.

“Naomi, I'm asking you, who did you have dinner with today?”

Naomi’s face showed a trace of impatience. “What does that have to do with you?”

Zebulon's anger flared up. “How does it not have to do with me? Even if we can't be a couple and won't get married, you can't just find some random guy! Do you think that will provoke me? How childish can you be!”

Naomi laughed in exasperation. “Who told you I was trying to make you angry?”

She really couldn't believe this was how Zebulon saw her.

She hadn't done anything, yet he insisted on blaming her. Naomi was getting really tired of him.

“Isn't that what you're doing?”

“I know I went too far that day... and on the first day of school, that was my fault too. It was all my fault, and I can apologize, but you can't throw yourself away like this.”

Naomi took a deep breath, suppressing the irritation rising within her.

She really didn't understand Zebulon anymore.

He was the one saying “we can't be a couple and won't get married,” but his actions were just absurd.

“Do you know what you look like right now?”

Her patience had run out. She lifted her eyes to look at him, the impatience clear in her gaze. “What exactly do you want?”

Zebulon met her impatient eyes and froze, forgetting the words he was about to say.

It was the first time he had ever seen such an expression on Naomi's face.

A sudden panic rose in Zebulon's heart.

Was Naomi actually serious?

Was she really going to give up on him?

This was what Zebulon had once hoped for more than anything, but now all he felt was dissatisfaction, anger, and panic.

“I really don't understand. If you hated me so much before, shouldn't you be happy that I'm staying out of your sight now? Zebulon, don't tell me that after I gave up on you, you suddenly realized you actually like me?”

Zebulon's eyes widened, and he instinctively retorted, “How is that possible? How could I ever like you?”

Even though she already knew the answer, hearing Zebulon's unhesitating denial still sent a sharp sting through Naomi's heart.
