Mrs. Gonzalez frowned, dismissing it irritably. "Just throw them out, then."
They were just a bunch of cheap trinkets, not worth keeping anyway.
The housekeeper tried to say more, but Mrs. Gonzalez waved her off. "That's enough. Don't mention it again."
The housekeeper had no choice but to drop the subject.
When Naomi came down for breakfast, Mrs. Gonzalez still gave her a little lecture.
Naomi agreed to everything, but inwardly, she had no intention of following her mother's advice.
Soon, it was time for the team-building event. Naomi took the family car and told the driver she'd be staying at her dorm that night, so he wouldn't need to pick her up.
Once the driver nodded in understanding, Naomi got out and walked into the countryside retreat.
As soon as she entered, she heard laughter and cheerful chatter, suggesting a great atmosphere.
Naomi's tense nerves began to relax.
A staff member led her in, and she saw her colleagues gathered around a barbecue.
"Naomi's here!"
Steven spotted her and immediately waved her over.
Naomi was relieved to see that Steven wasn't holding a grudge about what had happened before.
"Am I late?"
Steven and the others chuckled. "Not at all. We got here early to scout the area and just came over when it was time to eat."
"Come on, pick whatever you want, and we'll grill it for you."
"Okay, thanks."
Naomi selected some vegetables and brought them over, earning some playful teasing about being a herbivore.
"Don't doubt my skills! My family used to own a barbecue joint. I'm a pro with meat, especially chicken wings."
He sounded so confident that Naomi hesitated for a moment before deciding to grab a chicken wing.
Naomi found that amusing. "Why would he bring that up?"
Lennon shook his head.
As the two of them walked toward the grill, chatting, the others exchanged knowing glances.
Steven, however, didn't join in on the teasing.
Remembering what he'd witnessed yesterday, he glanced furtively at Lennon.
He hadn't meant to tell Lennon about it when he got back yesterday; he just figured that since Lennon knew Naomi, maybe he could talk to her and help out.
From what he saw, it was clear that Naomi was living a very repressed life.
It didn't even seem like her own mother was on her side, which was just tragic.
He wondered if Lennon had actually done anything to comfort Naomi.
But seeing how comfortable they were with each other now, he guessed he didn't need to worry about it.
