Who’s the Dog Now? novel Chapter 95

Naomi was surprised by how well-equipped Lennon's car was. She took the towel, feeling a bit awkward. "Lennon, what are you doing here?"

Lennon started the car, his eyes on the traffic ahead. "I had some business in the area."

Another coincidence?

Even someone as dense as Naomi could tell that her "coincidental" meetings with Lennon were happening a little too often.

But she didn't dare ask more.

What if they really were just coincidences? Asking would be incredibly embarrassing.

She had already wasted years on Zebulon because of her one-sided feelings; she couldn't afford to make that mistake again.

"What a coincidence."

"So, where are you headed now, Lennon? If you're going home, you can just drop me at the subway station up ahead. I can get back on my own."

"I'll take you back to school," Lennon said.

Naomi wanted to refuse, but she'd ridden in his car so many times already that protesting now would just be pretentious and make things awkward.

After drying her hair, Naomi decided to take the towel with her to wash it before returning it.

"So, did the rest of the team event go well?"

Naomi asked, trying to make small talk.

Lennon shook his head. "I don't know. I left not long after you did."

"Oh? Did you have something else to do too, Lennon?"

Lennon paused. "Yes."

Naomi felt a pang of disappointment.

"It was our first team event, too. What a shame."

Lennon opened his car door. "I didn't get a chance to eat dinner. Want to grab a bite?"

Naomi then remembered she hadn't eaten either.

"Okay."

The rain had stopped. As they walked side by side down the alley, the air was filled with the mixed aroma of food and the fresh scent of post-rain pavement.

It wasn't an unpleasant smell; at least, Naomi didn't find it so.

In fact, she felt a sense of ease she hadn't experienced in a long time.

They chose a hot pot restaurant. After they ordered, Naomi remarked, "I never pictured you eating at a place like this, Lennon."

It wasn't that the food was bad, but it seemed like the kind of place a wealthy young man from a privileged background would never set foot in.

Lennon dropped a piece of frozen tofu into the spicy broth, his expression calm. "I used to eat at places like this all the time."
